Sissy Bar Bag / Tail Bag

I'm looking for a sissy bar bag, or a large tail bag, for my big ride. Having a hard time trying to find one that will mount to the BRP backrest. Does anyone have any reccomendations?

I want to go with a bag that will mount to the backrest. I don't want to remove a bag from the seat every time I need gas.

tj... i added a Rally Pack to my BRP back rest... ran to Ocean Park ME and back.. then added a small roll on top when we ran out of room..no issues

I have the Kuryakyn Gran Tour bag on my BRP backrest. Easy hook up to the backrest (on the back side).

ok...kind of a related question. Is the pillion seat on the spyders removable? I don't have one yet but I have some accessories from my current m/c that i'd love to keep using. Like the Willie & Max hooker.

Obviously with a trunk carrying stuff won't be as challenging but this works great to bungee stuff or attach my tailbag (see I said it was kind of related!) to the back seat.

thanks...janetb

Not removable as the stock seat and the BRP comfort seat are all one piece. The seat does lift up. Has to to reach the gas tank. I don't see why that connector couldn't fit under the seat with straps going up and around whatever you have on the pillion seat. The whole thing would lift up for getting gas.

Because the seat flips up, to access the gas tank, you can mount that under the seat. I mount my Sadlebags under the seat without issues, But still looking for a big bags to attach to the backreast.

Will those mount with the Stock backrest in place?

I have the Kewlmetal rack so that Day Tripper sits on the rack and I bungee'd it to the bottom of the rack. It also has two nylon straps that snap and hold the backside of the bag to the passenger grab handles. The bottom and sides are fairly solid / stiff and it has about 4 or 5 of the large velcro straps made to hold it to a backrest. I really think it would work with the BRP backrest but I haven't studied the BRP rack and backrest setup to see how much flat space is available behind the backrest for the bag to rest on (not that it would need much). Many folks here have bought various Nelson-Rigg bags and I can't recall a single complaint. I am really happy with the one that I got and it happens to work well with the Biker's Friend bag that sits on my passenger seat.

I looked at the Dowco Rally Pack Luggage set (same as the one fred put the link up for) and their setup cost the same as the Nelson-Rigg that I ended up getting (both were priced at $99 at my dealer). The advantage to the Dowco was that it was a three piece bag system with the tail bag and the roll bag included (and a vinyl roll bag). The roll bag is extra with the Day Tripper. I think the Day Tripper was just a bit better constructed and had more convenient side storage pockets than the Dowco.

If having a passenger seat that is removable is important to you, you can get a Corbin seat for your Spyder. Corbin's have a removeable passenger seat. Tailbags and bungees can attach to the passenger grab handles too.

Check the Nelson Rigg website. They have a variety of luggage that can be attached to the backrest. I bought one many years ago and it still serves me well, but I don't recall the name of the style.

Try this: https://www.nelsonrigg.com/store/default.aspx

These are the ones I have been looking at. I 'm trying to find a dealer close enough that I can try them before buying. I would like to make sure hey are going to fit, and not fall off before doing a long ride.

I just purchased the Nelson Rigg CL-700 Expandable Tail Pack. I think it fits nicely on the tail behind the BRP backrest. It has some hidden bungee-hooks, that allow for a secure attachment.
All of the pockets expand as needed.
I purchased from Nate at New Enough, in Texas.
He was very helpful, and quick delivery.

Those of you that have the Nelson Rigg's bags. With your experience, do you feel the Nelson Rigg CTB-950 will fit on the back of the Spyder.

I will be on the road for 3 weeks. I hate doing laundry. It may look goofy, when its attached to the Spyder, but will it fit? Will it stay attached?
The main compartment of the CTB-950 is about the same dimensions as the Dayrunner that I have so, IMO, I don't think it will look really goofy. Also, it should pop off the Spyder in under a minute when you get to your destination so it's not like you are stuck riding around with it attached all the time.

I am pretty sure it will fit well and I definitely think it will stay attached. With their Full Nelson mounting system, you would have to have a catastrophic failure of the bag for it to fall off. Look at the installation instructions PDF they have on the link you provided and you'll see how well that main bag attaches to the bike. I'm sure you could fit at least two if not all four of the velcro straps around the BRP backrest and then the two side straps loop around the passenger grab handles. It should be rock solid on the back of your Spyder. My only question would be how much of a flat area do you have behind the backrest that the bottom of the main bag can sit on. It won't need much, just a little something to rest on so the weight of your stuff in the main and the roll bag is not hanging from the velcro straps.

Two random thoughts for your tour pac:

  1. http://www.bikersfriend.com/... Select the largest tube bag they make - remove the current back rest -- now the rider has a back rest plus you can raise the seat leaving the bag attached to re-fuel. We have Spyd'r members that have this option.
  2. One of the Harley, Goldwing etc. tour boxes can be installed on the plate that comes with the BPR back rest. Easy to remove by pulling on the release cable under the seat to re-install BRP back rest when needed. Tour box back rest would be in the same position at the BRP back rest, so no issues with raising the seat.
Don't know if I'm making any sense; early yet this morning. :roflblack:

I did a 1500 mile trip without incident. I did have to loosen the holdown straps for gas, but didn't have to remove the bag. A little awkward, but doable. Make sure that you order the strap extensions (mine were free) to get around the large Spyder backrest. I was able to attach three of the four straps.......very secure.

sorry , should have included it

Dowco

here is a link to Motorcycle Superstore but there must be other resellers

I bought one of these bags before the ride to Los Angeles. I could not make it work with the BRP backrest. Ended up selling it to a guy with a Kawasaki Vulcan (I think that was what it was) and I bought a Kury handle bar bag that I was able to connect with no trouble at all and I was able to get one mesh jacket, a 35mm type digital camera and some misc stuff in it. It really helped out.
