O - Tickets on motorcycle

1st ticket age 16 Riverside Ca. - California stop - motorcycle LEO - camouflaged in oleander bushes. Had it coming regardless.

#2 - Abilene Texas - Speeding / 10 over - LEO (radar) escorted to the JP - paid fine in cash and released.

#3 - Speeding - way, way, over thirty miles above posted speed limit(had outrun the local helicopter), stopped by a road block which had been set up to stop us(not bragging - just the facts) - got me three days in jail - no fine.

#4 & 5 - speeding - one day apart - same radar trap - motorcycle LEO threatened my life if he caught me tomorrow(the truth I swear). (two in two days, in the same place, by the same officer is nothing to brag about - there was (to me at the time) reason for my being so inept - never mentioned that reason to the officer. When you're wrong you're wrong, and I was.

#6 - unsafe lane change while pulling a trailer on the 405 freeway (setting up for transition from one freeway to another - half the lanes went one direction and the other half another -LEO said one car had to brake, which made it unsafe for them. He wrote the ticket and we talked about it - after hearing my explanation he changed his mind and said if he had it to do over again he would not have written me. Fair enough.

I have never been pulled over on the Spyder except in Ozark at Spyderfest. Good thing we were not doing anything wrong.:thumbup:

In a cage or other bike is quite a different story. I have been pulled over so many times I'm not even sure the number. Mostly speeding and street racing with a couple of other things I will not mention. Through all of that I never got a ticket when I should have (one time I was going 75 in a 55, female State Trooper ), but I got two when I shouldn't have. One of my tickets was for going 50 in a 45 (a male village cop, ie: prick) in a company truck with a broken speedometer. The other one was in the Keweenaw for going like seven over. I was having a very bad day (long story short, broken down Actic Cat started it, couldn't cross a bridge with sleds, hitch hiked back to cabin and was in a hurry to get back with truck to pick up sleds) and looking back on it I was a bit rude to the officer. You don't want to say things like... I don't have time for this, if you're going to write me a ticket just write me a ticket.

I have gotten a few warnings. My favorite story for a ticket is the time when I was doing 45 in 25----got stopped---he was going knock miles off, took my info, went to his car. Few minutes later came back and told me it was my lucky day---he didn't have a pen on him. So he sent me on my way, just told me to slow down. (We were only about 10 blocks from the police station also)

MN--1966 or so. Passenger not wearing helmet. No ticket--but the nice Occifer made her walk home. He actually follwed me for a couple blocks to make sure I would not go pick her up. Fortunately, we were only three blocks away.

MN--1985 or so. State Trooper pulled me over. He checked my license. Talked about my Yamaha Venture and let me go. Turned out he wanted to look at my Yosemite Sam mud flap with the flashing lights (when you stopped).

AK--2009 Got a thumbs up from a State Trooper at dusk. The glo ryders and other lights on our :spyder2:'s were in full bloom.

No other tickets or encounters with the law.

I obey a strict--no more than 5mph over the posted limit. With the cusion provided by low reading speedos, that allows me to drive by radar with impunity.

I know some say don't remove your helmet, I always remove it, I would prefer for the officer to look at my face' It's more personal' Instead of looking though a helmet like he/she is taking to a robot. Besides when they see my gray hair, It's an automatic downgrade to a warning. :roflblack:

Been stopped three times once a burned out license plate light it was late he thought it was a good excuse for a drunk case, he was wrong the other two the nice officers warned me and I think it was because of my nice hands where you can see them attitude, may I get my license out now there are no weapons in the car etc. they let me drive away and we both said please and thank you a lot.

It is hard not to romp on these Spyders because they are so much fun. I've been lucky so far and setting the cruse. I love to take on the curves but I do it safe. Damn they are fun!!!!!:yes:hyea:

Only one ticket. Doing 72 in a 55 zone (back when the interstates were 55), told officer that was as fast as the truck would go down hill to get momentum for the next hill. I was trying to keep up with my boss. Paid fine on the spot.

Leo pulled up behind me at a passport stop at this years Spyderfest. Just wanted a closer look at the RT and wondering why all the Spyders in town.

Rick Mayer of saddlery fame has a post on the FB BMWMOA group about an award he got today you might find interesting. it's an open forum, i'd never heard of LEOs pulling what he said they did.
myself gotten awards for most anything young inebriated folks might do on 2 or 4 wheels, but funny now that I haven't had a drink in some time I've not been pulled over on 2 or 3 wheels period. course I drive a 92R100R with a Velorex or my 2012 RT A&C, so i'm not ticket bait anymore.

And yes... the less you say the better. Best things to say are: Yes Sir, No Sir and Yes Sir.

Do NOT get off your bike. Turn it off. Do not remove helmet or look for your wallet or anything. Pull over. Kill engine. Keep hands in clear sight - preferably on the handlebars. ASK if you can remove your helmet or get off your bike. If you need to get into the trunk for your papers, ASK to do so.

If getting pulled over in your car.. same type of rules apply. Pull over. Engine off. Radio off. Dome light turned on at night. Both hands on steering wheel. Do NOT dig around for papers until asked to do so.

For those of you who are not or never have been a Law Enforcement Officer ( LEO ). The above by Firefly is very Wise because for Cops stopping motor vehicles is probably the most DANGEROUS activity they routinely engage in.....the Officer is making a routine Traffic stop the operator is a FLEEING ARMED VIOLENT FELON who THINKS the cop knows this and is stopping to ARREST them.........This is why cops who value their lives treat traffic stops like it's going to be " ALL HELL BREAKING LOOSE " ......I did not post this as a LECTURE just to help you understand what is going on in the MIND of that COP who just pulled you over.........Hope this helps.......Mike
