side bag not latching anymore 2010 RTS (any suggestions)?

has anyone had issue with the side bag no longer latching closed. I hear and see the latch line up. was at dealer he had to lift the entire rear end plastic up to route around new ground cables in a fix attempt for our CB Transmission issue. tried closing like we normally do and just push close or even slamming (never worked for us before) but either method still no go. LEFT side back closes no issue.

anyway after re installation of the rear plastic assembly the right rear back will no longer latch close. I push it closed you hear it click but it wont ratchet locked. the release cable is not sticking but the gear under the latch seems stuck. even using lube on the entire latch area and still no go. they are going to order under warranty replacement latches but just wondering if there is a simple fix.

You can try tightening or loosening the nut on the cable that runs from the latch to the opening handle.

It was my left one

It would fly open with no rhyme or reason...took 3 times but dealer finally got it fixed...now it takes a gentle (sometimes not so gentle!!) tap with my hand to get it open...but that is so much better than flying open at 75 mph in San Jose freeway traffic :yikes:...so it can be fixed..sorry I can't share what they finally did..something about shortening some linkage :yikes:..I know I know..hahahahahaha

thanks Lamont will have them check it. this happened after they lifted the whole rear assembly (trunk) to route the new ground straps for the AM FM and the CB modules... it was working before but now not working on the one side. we can see the cable is not stuck it moves...

will have them look up that builletin... what does it say in a nut shell?

The cable housings for all 3 compartments are very sensitive to routing paths. You will need to remove the tupperware on the rear around the center latch that also covers the portion above the side compartments. Carefully inspect the cable routing, particullary close to the release handles. The cables bind inside the housings if not routed just right. Try not to adjust the spring tension at the latches. I say this because, the compartments latched prior to the work you had performed and now fail. This is a clear indication that the cable routing was disturbed during the work your dealer performed. I have had the same problem early on (2 years ago) when I had removed the rear tupperware to also do some electrical modifications. I tried the spring tension adjustment to no avail. You might also purchase some graphite powder lube and put some of this in the ends of the cable housings. At any rate, sounds like your dealer is responsible for the fix.

the little gears under the latches are binding up. the cable seems to move to release the latch (if it would latch). its just the latch wont close... sent the info on the tech buliten to the dealer to review. hope that helps. bringing in spyder on Saturday to have them fix hopefully

but any direction on what to look for is greatly appreciated (means I am not waiting as long to get fixed)

It's a pretty invoved way to add adjustment to the bags.

It's not just having the cable move but be able to move VERY freely. Mine was the same way. The cable must slide very freely inside the casing. It may appear as though the cable is moving OK but believe me, it's got to be VERY free. Most often, the routing problem is close to the release handles where it is routed down and over to each compartment. Adjusting the spring tension at the latches did not help my problem. I ended up adjusting the spring tension back to the org. setting and worked on the cable routing and finally solved the problem. That was almost 2 years ago and I've never had the problem return. I was so parnoid about the caomparments comming open that for 6 months after that, I had a lanyard tied to the contents in each compartment and the other end tied to the comparment limiting strap.
