• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Shout out to Rice Motor Sports, Spearfish SD

Sadly passed away, December '23.
While at the Three Wheel Rally in Deadwood last week I ran into what for me was a major problem. On Wed, I went to put something in the frunk. I put the key in, pressed and turned to the left and nothing. The key was turning but nothing was happening. All my attempts to release the frunk lid failed. I needed the access for my luggage for the ride home.

I remember reading a post on this forum about the closest Can Am dealer to the rally and in finding it again I saw it was Rice Motor Sports in Spearfish. I called them and explained my dilemma. I pointed out I was down here for the rally, and the service writer, I think his name was Ayden was extremely helpful.

He said they always try to help out Spyder riders passing through and told me that because of the rally they were pretty hammered. But he said if I was patient, and I brought my bike in they would do everything they could to help me out.

So I rode on over because, well what choice did I have. Well I was there for about 4 hours. When they finally got to my bike, they were able to use a long tool and pop the latch for the frunk and got it opened. He told me the cable was shot and needed to be replaced but it would probably be another couple of hours. I told him not to worry I’ll just leave the frunk as it is until I could get home and have my local dealership handle it. So with the lid open, they engaged the lock so the lid would not relock and I was on my way.

So for the rest of my time down there and for the ride home I made sure not to put anything in the frunk that I couldn’t afford to get stolen, and made it home with no additional problems. Thanks to Rice Motor Sports they got me out of a pretty sticky situation.

I have not needed them while at the 3 wheel rally but a buddy of mine did need them one year. They got him right in and got him back on the road in a few hours. I think there is also a dealer in Rapid City. One drawback to BRP is that their dealers are few and far between.

Say Greg,
Many of us have put an emergency release on the frunk and seat release mechanism. A bit of lube on the locking mechanism helps also. Hope you enjoyed the rally. We went a few years ago and had a good time. we stayed in Spearfish.

Greg, if you opt to put in a new cable in addition to putting in an emergency release (please do the release) make sure the new cable is well oiled/greased. Seems some have a problem with being dry in the middle leading to rust... leading to breakage.

I'd like to do that but I'm not sure how to install something like that.

It’s very nice to hear a positive reply about Rice Motorsports, I’ve lived in the “Hills” for forty years and have seldom heard anything nice about them.

The Spearfish one must be better than Rapid’s. I only used the one in Rapid for warranty stuff. All other work that I have done on mine is at Rosco’s in Rapid. I also found out Rogue Motorsports in Belle works on Spyder’s. Both are certified BRP mechanics that used to work for Rice.

Agreed! We use them recently for the front sprocket recall, and they were awesome! Everyone was super helpful and seemed like they actually enjoyed their job. Very refreshing to deal with.
