Sometimes you don't fully appreciate something until it's gone. I added Elka stage 1 shocks to my 2009 RS in 2011 with about 7000 miles on it. The day I installed them I was shocked at how great the bike rode. I just traded the bike in with 35,000 miles on it a week ago, and removed my shocks for the trade. I reinstalled the original shocks, and drove 40 plus miles to my dealer.
It was a real cold and windy day.
All I can say is that I could not wait to get off that machine. I swung the first few turn way out wide because the bike would not track though the turn, the bike danced all over the rode while driving straight, the wind gusts played havoc with my arms. I was miserable to say the least. Those stock shocks sucked, and they had very few miles on them.
Moving forward I drove my new FS-3 home that day and because I was interested in the newness I did not really notice the shocks. I now have 450 miles on her and installed the sway bar and end links last night. I was quite impressed in how much improved the cornering was with BAJARON's parts on it. However I know it can be better and this time I am not waiting 7000 miles, lol. I left a message with Elka yesterday to get in touch with me, I can't wait to have them build me up some shocks for my new ride!
