• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Should the 2015 Spyder have a bigger engine?

Don't wish for something it might happen

Most of the bikes i've owned had 6 speeds, My Tri and my 6n have 6 speeds, And unless I'm on a level road doing 65/70 i rarely use it :dontknow:, And when i do i still look for #7. Sometimes it becomes a newsense :banghead: , Slow up a little and it's downshifting to Fifth, Besides i can only count to 5 unless i take my other hand off the bars....

Was advised that a larger engine would spell doom in the Euro market. Maybe Chris56 can confirm.

Wonder if they're trying to stay under 1,000 cc for some specific vehicle class. I've got an inline 6 cylinder 1600 cc motor with a six speed transmission in my German bike - both would be sweet in my wife's (or my) next Spyder!

Every country has automobiles that are specific to that country. And some of them can not be sold in America or to other countries, so why not make what Americans want and leave the Europeans in the dust!

Dan
Put in a V-4, 1800 cc, 2 separate electrical systems: one (straight wiring for lights, brake fluid levels, etc) 2nd (VSS, Traction Control, etc). It is overkill for limp mode to occur when the brake fluid gets a micro below level, or some lights go out. That could be done with the old "idiot lights" that have guided us for many years.

I agree.. a 3 or 4 cylinder... 1800CC would be awesome......

As far as the electrical systems and limp mode... no rewiring is needed... BRP can easily modify what will cause a limp mode just by re-programming our computers. They could remove the stupid brake light condition with a few simple keystrokes. For the life of me... I don't get why you can disconnect your headlights and not get any fault codes... but if you lose both rear brake lights she goes into limp mode.... :banghead:
Although a double brake light failure has to be pretty rare.....

Agree on the brake fluid level... I had considered by-passing that on my GS.. just find if the switch is normally open or closed... and then either short the wires.. or cut them....

Spyder Engine

If there were a 6000 cc engine in the Spyder, someone would want more.

As for me, the 998 is more than sufficient, I can break every speed limit in the United States without too much trouble:doorag:.

I doubt we would have a problem in the UK - We have access to all modles Goldwing 1800 - BMW 1600 etc and it's home to the
Triumph Rocket 3 (2.3 Litres )
Can-Am Spyder with a bigger engine - Bring it on !

:agree: I wouldn't mind more torque or a wider torque band, though. If that requires a larger engine, so be it.

Not great listening skills

It appears that 87% of the Spyder riders that have answered this poll up until now feel that the Spyder is in need of a bigger engine. Maybe BRP needs to do a better job of listening. Dealerships all over the country are still full of left over 2012 models and their 2013 line up did not address the main request of the Spyder community. With the Yamaha Vmax at 1700cc and 180 hp with the same weight as the Spyder costing $20,000 and the Ducati Diavel is the same story. If BRP wants more people in their 20's and thirties to continue to buy the RS they need a bigger engine. And if they want hardcore tourers who ride full dressers and the Goldwing trikees to convert to Spyder, bigger engine.

that being said... I love my RSS sooooooo much and I have more fun on it than any motorcycle I have ever had and my wife loves it and I am very very happy with my Spyder.
