• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Should I be worried?

Stopped at the store the other day and when I started up the Spyder to continue home the message "check transmission" came on as soon as I put it in first. I backed it into N and then back to first and it was ok for the 3 mile trip home. Had it all the way up to 5th and it downshifted fine. Yesterday I thought I would check it out again and after getting out of the development and starting to up shift the message came on as soon as I hit 3rd. I turned around and it went out and did not return. I am quite hesitant to take it on a longer ride and even if I have to take it into the dealer (45 miles) I probably should trailer it. It's an SE5, anyone had this message come on their unit and what was the outcome?

The first thing to check is the oil level, some Auto Trans Spyders are very sensitive to oil level.
It has to be spot on.

You mean engine oil? I just had the 6k service done 300 miles ago hope the dealer didn't short change the fillup. Is there tranny fluid too?

mine has shown the "transmission code" and every time I need oil.....It usually happens when on a slope and as soon as it flatens out it go'es away...but I check the oil and add some and good to go....my Spyder seems to use oil much quicker than my husbands Valk or Harley......hope this helps

If I were you, I would check the oil first before doing anything. If it is needs it, call the dealer and see what they put in it. Most likely it was a 10-40 blend, but find out for sure. Make sure you give them a piece of your mind while on the phone as well. You should not need to add oil in 300 miles that you have driven. Something is definitly wrong with that.

I agree with arntufun, But just in case YOU add oil ,Make sure you use motorcycle oil for WET CLUTCH
But take it back to the dealer.

buy a quart of oil from dealer...the kind they used in your Spyder....carry it in the trunk......with a rag....funnel??? you never know when you may need it....I never leave home without a quart in the trunk

I have had this happen also in a sloped parking lot- I turned key On/Off 3 times and started again and was OK.
I agree- Keep a quart in the trunk and I keep my oil level higher(SE) than someone with a (SM) probably would.

In 28K miles my SE has only showed me "check transmission" twice. I pulled the panel, checked the dip stick, added a tad bit and all was well with the world I carry a quart of Amsoil with me just in case.

Thanks for all the ideas. I checked the oil and it was in the middle of the operating range. Added a little oil and test drove. Fault came on again. I noticed that when I shifted I sometimes had to hit the paddle twice to get it to shift. Talked to the dealer and he thinks it may be the switch and bottom line is I trailer it in on Monday, they check it out, if it's the switch they order it and it probably stays at the dealer a couple of days:pray:. Just thought I would give you guys an update. Thanks again for your help!!!

UPDATE...

Had to bring her to the dealer since the oil trick didn't work. Left it at the dealer last Monday even though service is closed on Monday.
Got a call on Wed. that it was diagnosed as a bad switch ordered and should be in Friday. Dealer called Friday early afternoon and said come and get her.
Picked up:spyder2: on Saturday and all is fine. All in all good service provided by Route 1 Motorsports Grant, FL.

Great to hear that #1, your dealer is on top of things, #2 that it's fixed and #3 that it was a minor issue.
