• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Should I be concerned...

This morning I started Boris in the Sprderhaus and selected first gear....which selected with its usual heavy thunk....and drove him to just outside Spyderhaus and tried to select neutral....no luck...went into 2nd and couldn't even detect just where neutral should be on the way back to 1st.
Decided to back him home and selected reverse with no problem and backed up....deselected reverse and had no problem in selecting neutral.
I released the clutch lever and decided to try to repeat the whole thing...got out of the Haus, stopped and selected neutral with no problem. Good journey through traffic to office and back with no problem.

Anyone have this happen....2011 RS SM....???

Had this happend with various bikes and even some cars when cold. Probly once you just got moving a bit it was then fine. I wouldnt be concerned unless it starts happening all the time. Just curious how many miles/kms?

This happens often on my RT. It seems that the only time I find neutral is when I don't want to find it when I'm upshifting from 1st to 2nd. :gaah: If I'm stopped and can't get it into neutral I just let the clutch out a little and try again this usually seems to work.

NEUTRAL

IMHO, I believe the detent for neutral is not as defined as that of the movement gears ...if that makes any sense.....Mike...

I've been riding bikes for over 30 years and have never had one where this didn't happen from time to time. Like everyone else has said, I wouldn't worry about it.

I have 7k on him and this was the first occurance of any note.
I don't know if the two are related but after he had stood out in 80+ temps in the front yard I started him and parked him in the Spyderhaus and noticed the Check engine light was on. I looked in the manual and they say remove the key and replace....did that and no further problem.
OK...for the Rs's.......selecting a cold first gear...how does yours go in....mine goes in with a big clunk.

Don't worry about it. When the oil is cold it crates more drag in the clutch basket and the gears don't move as freely. It is somewhat like trying to find neutral while stopped with the clutch lever not all the way pulled in.

The shift mechanism is designed to go directly from 1st to 2nd (otherwise you'd be missing shifts and ending up in neutral when you didn't mean to). That is why neutral takes a bit of finesse to find.

When your Spyder is cold try getting into neutral before you come to a complete stop, that will help.

When having a hard time finding nuetral try reving the engine slightly 300+- rpm above idle and it will usually be easier to go into neutral
