• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A glass packed tip (the 2nd version), the stock exhaust clamp and slip joint, and a baffle I created from plumbing stuff. Sounds like fightin' words. Fun to build and assemble.

This one got a little more baffle to start off. The first had a great sound, but was too loud. Unfortunately it mortared off under a power test and dented bad. I can still add more components to quiet it down, much like tuning a supertrapp exhaust. This one got a safety wire job since it didn't have a hook to re-use the retension spring. No Mortars:thumbup:

I like it! It looks like ammo, like where the primer goes. :2thumbs:

cool as hell exhaust, dirt cheap, looks great, probably a major weight savings too. i'm sure many here are looking down there 4 exhaust system noses at this but i personally love it. could you break one down and show the individual parts? the only thing i would change is to point it to the rear.......maybe

Just an idea of what's possible. It's going on a trip in a few days, so I'll probably check it before I go and take a pic.

Heat is not a problem.

RAT RACER EXHAUST

so this muffler shell is actually a large exhaust tip, like off of a big diesel pickup truck?is that a piece from a kwik set deadbolt ? what is the order of assembly? i'm just trying to understand how it all goes together. thanks, coz.

Yes, just a tip from the autoparts store, But just consider it a basic idea to get your own gears turning...I want to see some variety! The rest is stainless steel hardeware(I wouldn't go smaller that 1/4 inch) and plumbing parts from Lowes or Ace...stainless pot scrubber for baffle. There are so many ways this could be done, show me something better!!! I want to see something really cool. Some tools you may need, metal snips, a drill, a dremel tool. The parts in my pic are in the order of assembly. Countersunk screw(1/4 in.) through beauty dimple washer through washer for backing(your choice of size for different sound and tuning) through strainer mated with cone through tip. Then washer spacer washer, some baffle packing if wanted, another strainer cone then washer, lockwasher, nut, jam nut, spacer, acorn nut.

RAT'S EXHAUST

I THINK I GET IT NOW. is the stock 90 degree pipe a seperate part or is it attached to the stock muffler? i think i would like to make mine with a rectangular outlet, these look pretty cool on cars.possibly level with the ground. does the first cone act as an anchor to build off of?:dontknow:

The Spyder exhaust has 4 sections I believe. 1 off each head, they attach to a 2 into 1 section that sweeps under and has the O2 sensor. The final piece is the 90' that has the muffler. You could skip using the slip joint gasket which is in the 90' where it slides over the exhaust near the O2 sensor by finding a tip near the same size and use and exhaust tube expander to open it up enough to slip it over the Spyder exhuast.
If you want a slip-op 90' that does this already, a few Spyderlovers vendors carry them. Much better looking than an autoparts store 90', they have the compression crimps in the bend. Also, be prepared to have to work a little on a "rectangular outlet", it might fit directly like mine without contacting the footpeg bracket, notice I have very little clearance. The inner cone was trimmed down in diameter and slid in through the inlet side, it's pressed in between the perforated sleeve and the domed exit tip. The exit cone you see contacts the exit dome and with the hardware in, they pull together. Because the material was a little thin, each cone is actually 2 cones pressed together with high temp copper gasket sealant.

what holds all of the 'guts' inside the shell? is there some type of sleeve inside the shell? what are the cones from?

The tip has the main outer chrome sleeze, the exit side is flared and crimped to hold a domed cap and a perforated sleeve that runs the length of the inside tip. Between the outer chrome sleeve and perforated sleeve there is packing. Thats the stock tip assembly, go check one out. Can't remember what those chrome caps I assembled are for exactly, they were just in the plumbing section.

rat racer exhaust

thanks for all the info. i will go check them out. do you run that shorty full time?

and me?

Yeah, it's always on there. I may build another, I gotta get the body work finished first.

........i am still amazed from your muffler :ohyea:

Yes indeed, Dragon. Irish eyes smiling and plugging their ears when you roar by. I have wanted to do more lately, the spyder has been sitting a little too much. Life has been interfering with spyder time.
