Shortee CB antenna's

Recently we purchased a 2016 RT Limited and purchased the CB antenna kit. My husband is a tech and installed it. I also purchased a Custom Dynamic's Shortee Antenna for I didn't want the tall one on back.. We aren't able to transmit or receive since we put this on. Wondering if this has to be tuned? Are shortee antennas not recommended? Any input welcomed.

Shorty CB Antenna

Recently we purchased a 2016 RT Limited and purchased the CB antenna kit. My husband is a tech and installed it. I also purchased a Custom Dynamic's Shortee Antenna for I didn't want the tall one on back.. We aren't able to transmit or receive since we put this on. Wondering if this has to be tuned? Are shortee antennas not recommended? Any input welcomed.

Because of the limited Ground Plane on these bikes, a shorty won't work properly. The factory antenna isn't good either. Their is an aftermarket antenna that is tuned for the Can Am spyder and can be bought through Sierra Electronics or J&M. It is not a shorty though. About the same length as OEM but thicker and better.

There is alot of forum discussion on here about CB's and setup. One particular topic also talked about adding additional "metal" foil tape in and around the area of the base of the antenna on the inside of the trunk area where you remove the armrest to access the antenna base. This did help in better transmission for me.

We have decided to go ahead and purchase a new cb antenna and be done with this. It's a shame one spends $1,000.00 on factory CB unit and has to put in more money to use the darn thing.
