Shock Covers - Installed

A couple weeks I ordered three shock covers from e-bay that were tailored to fit the Can-Am Spyder RS/GS. They are available in 13 colors, and I went for black all round! . They just came in so I spent the evening checking them out, cleaning up the shocks and fitting them on! They are Denier Nylon and /or Cordura Velcro, full length to cover the entire shock, easy to install and are supposed to keep most dirt and grit off them.


1. First I cleaned the shocks with general purpose cleaner.

2. I fitted the front right and left covers around the shocks, pulling the velcro over the top to keep them in place, then pulled them in and velcro'ed them all the way down. Once they were secured, I rolled them 180 degrees so the velcro seam was hidden.

3. The rear shock doesn't have a lot of room at the top, so I unscrewed and dropped the rear panel just above the rear tire to have more room to work.

There are other shock covers out there, some with Spiders on them, some with Can-Am Logos, etc…, but I find the plane black ones work for me.

Looking good. I wish I would have done something like this back when my Spyder was new. My shocks (especially the rear one) are extremely dirty and tarred up due to the way they repair potholes in my neck of the woods.

Hey guys.

I can believe it! I installed these a few days ago ( sorry, slow at getting them on the forum ), and put about 50km on them on wet salty roads.
The amount of dirt I've found on the outside of the covers after the ride was crazy! I'm really happy I have them, even though some dirt still gets in.


I took all three covers off this evening and found the front ones are bone dry, no real dampness or dirt accumulation. I gave them a shake and reinstalled. The rear cover did let some dirt in, but nothing compared to not having a cover. I figured it may, since the rear tire is only a few inches from the shock/cover, hard to keep all of the dirt out, but I'm ok with keeping 98% of it out!


It was mentioned in another thread that it'd be a good idea to check under the covers every so often to clean and check for moisture, etc... I agree after seeing the dirt the rear tire can kick up. So, I've built this check into my regular maintenance/washing checks.

They're nice and really easy to put on...it's nice for GE to put up pics but you could do these with your eyes closed, provided you can reconnect velcro...I got the yellow with squares of silver and black to match my yellow bike...they're a little fashion for the Spyder...as far as protection, the shocks obviously don't need protection, but eh, who cares...they look nice...

I knew by looking at them they would be easy to put on, I just haven't decided if I want to put them on my Spyder or not. I am going to see what my wife's look like first and will go from there. The description of yours sounds like a pretty cool design that might go well with my Spyder too. :thumbup:

I think the merchant on ebay has several designs for each color bike...if you can get to his ebay store and look around, you'll likely find something that you like...I can try to locate the store for you, if you need me to...actually, here you go...

Mr. Wolf: I ran those for a while all around. Didn't like the looks on front so those came off.

But... there is a real need in the rear. The rear wheel throws dirt and debris at the shock and it has an exposed rod which must ride up/down through seals. Can you see what's coming?

Agreed, I think it is a must have, at least over the rear shock, from what I've seen it accumulate over the last two weeks of winter riding.

You know dean, I may contact him and ask if he could make an Autobot one. I am thinking yellow with a black Autobot logo might be pretty interesting.

Atadude, thanks for the info as well. If you check out the thread on Dirty Spyder, you will see that I have basically ran mine through the mud without any protection. It does make more sense to protect it though.

I bought the same covers last year, I got the red with black and silver checkers on mine, they do a great job and I've had no issues. Great price on those compared to the ones with the embroidered spyder on them.

:agree: I ordered one for the rear the first time I saw how much dirt gets thrown into that shock, but the fronts stay clean and I prefer the uncovered look.
