Shipping a Spyder

Does anyone have a recommended company for shipping a Spyder? Maybe those of you who have used I motorsports know who they use. I'm looking for a shipper who I can trust to take excellent care of the unit during pickup/transport/delivery.

I checked into Uship. Great prices but after reading the reviews I don't feel confident using them.

Unfortunately, accidents happen with any shipper... You're looking at $3500.00 worth of shipping accident.

The dealer I bought my Spyder from recommended Motion Blue Travels to ship my bike to me. The guy was really good. You can look him up on Google. His name is Cedric. Not sure of his geographic coverage.

Check out www.Haulbikes.com, the m/c shipping division of Daily Direct. They use semi trailers equipped to exclusively haul motorcycles, ATVs, and water craft on trailers. They are the primary, if not exclusive, hauler for Harley Davidson trikes. I used them to bring the Spyder I bought from Wisconsin to Idaho. Absolutely no shipping physical problems at all.

The downside is all roads lead to Milwaukee and/or York, PA. If you're shipping from Los Angeles to Seattle your bike will go through their central transit point in Milwaukee. They don't ship until they have a full or near full trailer load, which means your bike doesn't share a trailer with tractor or car or refrigerator or whatever. You have to be flexible on shipping schedule.

I have used u ship 2 times excellent Service I had no problems with them

I have used Keyboard Motorcycle Shippers and they were great. Their wheeled pallet they put your bike on is neat. You could effortlessly move it around with one hand.

UShip is a gamble if you don't pay close attention to the ratings and feedback of the shipper you are considering. I've used them twice with good results. And once you use one guy, you can save his contact info and contact him directly for the next time you need something shipped and don't go through Uship.

That said, a few years ago I sold a BMW bagger to a buyer in Michigan. His UShip guy showed up while I was at work, which was not when he was supposed to arrive, leaving my wife and son to deal with the handing over of the bike. He was a full-on redneck mess. He had a full size semi trailer with a malfunctioning lift gate. It wouldn't raise to be level with the trailer bed. My wife and son had to muscle it inside with the guy. Well, I guess he forgot to secure the BMW and it fell over enroute to Michigan. $6000 in damage. He actually told my buyer that it had that damage when he picked it up! But I had taken photos of the bike the night before pickup and had sent them to my buyer to show that the bike was in fact in pristine condition. Good thing my buyer had already insured the bike. His insurance company paid and then went after the shipper. All-in-all it was a 6 month ordeal for the poor guy until the bike was fixed. Many months waiting for parts from Germany.

Have you thought about having someone ride your bike to its new location? I would be available for this. I have a 2014 RTL.

I am in the middle of this process right now. In fact my new F3S is to be loaded at the dealer in Maine this morning and will arrive in SC the day after tomorrow. The dealer loaded it on a pallet, strapped it down and shrink wrapped it for me. We are using Roadway as the carrier and total cost is just a hair over $300. And yes, it is insured.

UShip is the cheapest at around $400

The other haulers mentioned here are about $800.

I think I can do a fly and ride or trailer out and back for about $400

When I had my 2013 RT shipped from Wisconsin to Idaho Haulbikes charged me $1000. Fly and ride wasn't a viable option as this was the end of November, 2013. Fly and rent a U-Haul truck, or drive my pickup and trailer out and back both would have cost me about $2000 in travel costs. Shipping was half the cost and much less hassle.

In the end, it's well worth it to have someone transport it for me. The way I figure it, it's not only the $$ cost of trailer rental, gas, tolls and motels, but what are several days of my time worth?

Great shipping agent

I bought my bike in April this year from a dealer in Naples Florida. He was selling it on EBay and I lucked out with the price and condition. I live an hour south of Madison, Wi near Rockford I'll. I went on a Board and found a guy that has transported many Spyders and he delivered it to me from Naples for $600.Others paid around $700 to $900.

The best part is that he transports Spyders in an enclosed trailer and has experience with shipping and riding Spyders.
