• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Shifting for better mileage

Has anyone found any specific shifting pattern for better mileage? My 2011 RT-S SE5 seems to be lugging down if I shift too soon to the next gear.

:welcome:
If you bought the RT for gas mileage you bought the wrong machine. You should be shifting around 5K for best results.

:welcome:this is the RPM pattern on my RS:

:welcome: What sort of fuel mileage are you getting? There's no doubt that the right wrist/loud grip combination makes the biggest difference in just how you feel after giving your RT a drink...
Now as for me... I've got the SE 5 transmission and I start thumbing my way up through the gears as soon as the computers will take the upshift. But I'm not into trying to impress anybody with my riding skills or lighting-quick reflexes...:opps: 34mpg...

I have 2010Rt S SE5 trans and shift between 4500-5000 RPM . I also did not buy for fuel economy and :welcome:. I use to ride snowmobiles and compared to snowmobiles the spyder gets way better fuel mileage:thumbup:

I have the SM5 and shift between 4500 and 6K. Any speed limit above 40 and I am in 5th, depending on traffic.

I have 1600 mi. and the mileage is 32 - 34 mph for every tank. I don't think that is too bad.

4500-5000 seems to get the best response from the Spyder. Unfortunately, the :spyder2: is not an economy machine. Right around 30 mph is the average.

I didn't buy the Spyder for the economy but being a basically frugal (my sweet wife says to the expreme) person, I'm always looking to get the best performance from every vehicle I have owned. Thanks for all the input. I'm getting around 31 and I shift at or near 5K. Thanks again for all the info!

Well since you've got the "ESSIE 5", just try shifting as soon as it'll allow for the upshift... (16,24,29,36mph) It might bump your mileage up a bit...
If you hit the button too early the tranny simply won't allow the shift to take place so feel free to experiment.

To a Large degree RPM,s equal fuel consumption so my mileage varies greatly depending on the route I take, My mood , and My right hand. You will always get better mileage doing 60 on the highway at 5,000 in 5th gear compared to 40 on the backroads at 5,000 RPM in 3rd gear.:hun:
