Shade/Rain Hood for Zumo 660

Zumo GPS glare

I have a CAN-AM Spyder RTS with the Garmin Zumo GPS installed. I thought I was having a glare problem too until I changed my white shirt to a dark shirt. Problem solved. The glare was coming from my white shirt reflection and not the sun.

RBNS Hood with S/S Bracket for Spyder RT-S Zumo 660

When I purchased my 2010 Spyder RT-S I had the dealer fit the Zumo GPS 660
It is fitted across the handlebars

I was unhappy ref how easy it was to release it - So I Purchased the TourTec Lockable Zumo 660 Mount

I notice the position still left the Screen with glare during those rare Sunny days here in the UK

I purchased the RBNS Hood fitted it and this did improve the screen with less glare - The only problem was the cover was loose being only attached with velcro

I have now made a Stainless Steel bracket which holds the RBNS Hood rock steady - This bracket is L shaped and the rear arm is wedged between the TourTec mount and the Zumo mount - I used some rubber on the arm and covered it with sleeving and some velcro under the bracket which attaches with the velcro on the TourTec mount
I also put some rubber edging on the sides of the RNBS to again hold the Hood against the Zumo 660

I have posted some photos to show the bracket as others may want to make their own
The screen shot was taken on one of those rare sunny days

In case your wondering about the Smiley Face in the photo - This is just a cover I made to go over the Ign switch - Just to stop any rain getting into the Switch when my Spyder is left in the open when I am not using the travel cover

The Smiley face is how I feel when I ride my Spyder

Eddie,
What thickness or gage of SS did you use to construct the bracket for the sun hood.
Thanks in advance for the information

I used 2mm thickness of stailnless steel - Easy to bend and the arm could be slipped between the inner and outer bracket on the Tourtec locking bracket holding the hood secure

Hope this helps

I have that Touratech Garmen Zumo 660 black mount with the BRP adj. mount. That way you can tilt it up or down as much as you want.

Stevedfive

That looks great

I already have the Touratech locking mount it is fitted to the normal BRP GPS Zumo 660 Handlebar mount
I would like to change out to the new BRP adjustable GPS mount for the Zumo 600
Did you change yours out or did the Spyder come with the new adjustable mount already fitted

The question I have is can I just undo the existing Handlebar retaining bolts that hold the GPS Mount to the handlebars (Are they just threaded into the Handlebars) or do I have to strip down the Spyder to get underneath to undo any nuts etc which may be holding the handlebars to the steering column

Any information would be helpful

Thanks

It is an easy change out, no real disassembly other than removing the 4 mounting bolts. Takes longer to assemble the tools than to change out.
I love the adjustability, just didn't like the price of the adjustable mount.

Question for you? How difficult is it to install the Touratech locking mount?

See my post ref fitting the Touratech locking mount

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?34993-Zumo-660-Lock&p=399216#post399216

Note this was the 1st version Touratech which has the key at the top the latest one has a key at the bottom of the mount
The mounting holes in the Touratech mount are the same as the BRP GPS Mount You just put Fit the Touratech mount to the BRP GPS mount
and then fit the Zumo Power mount into the Touratech

It maybe with the adjustable BRP GPS Bracket the spacer used to ensure you could get the key in is no longer required as the mount can be adjusted anyway

Note - I found a special offer on the BRP adjustable mount on e bay today see

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151096197275?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

You will need to go on e bay for your area as the postal charges will be different and there may be no import charges as well
Worth a look
