• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Seven Days With Uly

First Day: Rode her for about 1.5 hours, speeds for 20 – 45 mph; engine died 5 times- once doing about 6 mph, the others while stopped. She (uh, actually, that's me) was a little twitchy steering-wise and didn't provide a comfortable feeling.

Day Two: Engine died once. Due to the twitchy feeling, wondered the first night if I had made a mistake. I was not “death-gripping” the grips (had learned about that on Spyder Lovers). But I was supporting myself by leaning on the handlebars. Discovered that riding that way, each bump that was large enough to feel caused me to change speed by 5 mph and swerve. Solution: Don't lean on the handle bars- keep my arms relaxed and only apply horizontal pressure to turn, no vertical pressure to support myself. Now she drives like a dream.

Still a little jerky in turns. Remembered reading a post on SL from someone who said that they only push with their outboard hand, they don't pull at all with the other hand. Tried that and the jerkiness disappeared!

Day Three: Engine died in my son's driveway, while in neutral! Didn't worry about it though because I learned on SL that this is not uncommon. Took her on the interstate and ran her up to ~ 78 mph. Straight as an arrow. Belt vibration at 64 mph in 4[SUP]th[/SUP] gear (it's not RPM related, only speed related). I'll have my dealer check belt tension on my 600 mile check up.

Days Four – Seven: No more engine stalls. Got 250 miles on her. Handles really well. I haven't ridden since I was 17; she inspires confidence and is a load of fun to ride. She runs with the temp needle in the area just below the “too hot” zone whether the integral thermometer indicates 90 or 111. I guess that's where the thermostat wants her to run.

No more engine stalling.

I always keep her above 4300 RPM and try to stay in 4500 – 6000 range. She seems to really like that!

I do have the gas smell. Will have dealer check on my 600.

No noticeable hot foot but the seat does get very warm.

All in all, I am thrilled with this new addition to my family.

Dealer called today to say they are calling all their 2013 customers to tell them about the MC heat shield and as soon as they get them in, they will start scheduling appointments. I obviously have a GREAT DEALER. RPM Cycles in Albemarle, NC. They aren't waiting for the NHTSB; they're just providing great customer service. Oh yeah, did I mention that I love the folks at RPM

Thanks for all the good advice here on SL. It helped me acclimate to Uly much more quickly than I would have had SL not been so informative.

Cheers.

Great news..!!

as said before there is a learning curve here and once you start it things get better and better. You are really doing great and will enjoy ryding more every ryde..!! :2thumbs:

Glad to hear you're enjoying ULY.:clap: Spyders do take a little time to get used to. BTW, RPM Powersports has been mentioned several times on Spyderlovers as one of the great dealers. Good to hear you can confirm that.

:2thumbs:.That's great. Lets hope no more issues. My 2013-RT/S dies once in awhile also but not very often. I'm having dealer check the purge valve but, I don't expect any problems. There is a learning curve, I hadn't ridden for 30 some years started on Harley's now Spyder. I told a cop I was talking to the other day when he asked "is that fun"? I told him it's so much fun he outta write me two tickets right now. I hope you have many many miles and smiles:)

Glad to hear you are enjoying the new :spyder2:. The :ani29: should not be "dying" on a regular basis. Is your idle speed about 1400 or so? I would have the dealer look into the cause that makes the engine die.

Engine Idle Speed Reply

Thanks for your inquiry akspyderman. The engine idles at a consistent 1400 RPM. It hasn't quit like that in the passed several days. Maybe she got it out of her system.
