Well my Iron horse needs a new rear tire after the 8,000 Plus miles, with a total of almost 16,000 miles.
I went to the local dealer and was quoted $424.00 for replacement, mount and balance of the rear tire. They claim 3 hours labor at $85.00 per hour.
I also asked about an oil change and they quoted me $260.00 plus tax. ( 7% ).

I just wonder if all the spyder people are exposed to these costs.

When in Upstate New York, durning the spyder event I had my oil change for $ 100. 00. I was told this was a special price for those who attended the event, and the regular charge was $135.00.

I may be a bit nuts and should be thinking the local dealer was quoting a fair price. Well my budget doesn't call for that type of maintence costs.

I know prices are all over the map. Had to get my RS safety which required a new rear stock tire as the Toyo 1 was worn. 239.00 installed and balanced. I just done a oil change on the RTS- oil filter, tranny filter, o rings, washers and a new worm clamp for the oil strainer as well as oil for 78.00 and 1 1/2 hrs of my time.
Therfore I would be inclined to shop around for a better price. That being said though if you are happy with your dealer and trust the techs that could very well be worth a few extra bucks .:dontknow:

Its amazing how all over the place these prices are for an oil change. My 600 was 400.00, but that was including belt tension adjustment...I'm trying it myself later on this month:dontknow:

Wow that sounds really high for both the tire and the oil change. I paid $80 for my tire $30 to have it mounted and $10 or so for a bottle of Ride-on and it took around an hours labor. It took a while to figure out how to get the trailer hitch off but total time without that was around an hour. Your dealer is probably figuring labor with taking off all of the rear tupperware which is not necessary. We paid $9.95/qt for Amsoil and I don't remember how much the filter and o-rings/crush washers were but it takes about half an hour to change the oil.

:opps: I just put a new rear tire (Kumho) $120 mounted. I did the work Myself, forgot to put the o ring back on :gaah: and had to take the rear apart for a second time.my Ride is a 2008 RS

The oil change quote is in the ball park. The tire change seems about $200 high. I also complain about the high cost of maintenance on our favorite vehicles.

Not just for the spyder, i went to the triumph dealer to ask about an oil change for mt rocket3, $280,
asked why, they said the mobil 1 oil was 18.99 a quart, and the rest was labor, went to autozone and bought the oil for 9.99 a quart, did the oil change myself including the filter for $73

Yep, my dealer charged me $418.00 for a new OEM rear tire and mounting and balancing it. The heck of it is, I told them how to change it without having to remove all the tupperware and they did it the way I told them. Still charged me according to the book. Well, I hope the tech made a little money off of it. He's a good guy.

I replaced the next one myself. Paid $86.00 for a Kumho Ecsta including tax and $25.00 to have it mounted and balanced at an independent shop. So cost me $111.00 and a couple of hours work. I'm pretty slow but I work cheap.

I had a Kuhmo shipped to an out of town dealer for a mid trip tire change last year. Tire was from tire rack - my cost obviously.

They charged me $120 to swap the tire on my GS which I thought was fair.... Seemed most people were paying $150 to $175 at their dealer for the swap without the cost of the tire factored in.

$400+ is robbery.

Forrest, at Seminole Power Sports in Sanford, JUST an "oil change" is around $170.00. However, I looked at my previous invoices and on some occassions, they called it a "service" which included the oil change. When I had my 18,000 "service" (which included the oil change) it ran me around $320.00. I think in that "service" they are supposed to adjust the valves. (not positive on that one)and do some other things. I will say that my spyder has run the best it ever has since that 18,000 mile service.

As to the tire change? I was charged $272.00 for tire and installation. Hope this helps.

Forest,
After our trip to Glacier and a total of 11,000 miles on the rear tire it was bald in the center. The dealer charged $340 for new tire, mounting, balancing, etc.
The cost of regular and normal maintenance on these critters is very high!

Dang at those prices I'm NOT complaining about my dealer!!!

:yikes::yikes: on those prices Forrest. I got new rear from Cowtown during Spyderfest (and they were CRZY busy)...shade over $200 incl taxes....I asked my servicing dealer cost of new tires...buy tire from them no charge to put on: Fronts: $75 each rear $190 (these are BRP tires/same as Ms Spyder came with) plus tax and WA disposal fee.
? what does OEM stand for? I assume it is the stock tire the Spyder came with...but don't really know.
Oil change: I use Amsoil which dealer doesn't stock and I get my filters from Bajaron...so I supply "stuff"...cost to change using my stuff: $80

If you have valves adjusted you are looking at about $800. I adjusted valves on my first :spyder2: at 12000--not on the other two until at least 36,000. Dealer agrees with me since he is doing the same on his bikes.

Forrest, I looked at my invoice for rear tire change, tire was $149 plus labor which included replacing front tires( hours not seperated) cost of $226. This was at Daytona Fun Machines.

I am headed west and am scheduled to stop in Cuba for a change of my rear tire. About 15000mi on my 2nd rear tire. I'll let you know how much it cost me but I bet it won't be anywhere near what you were quoted.
I'll also ask Len at Cowtown how much an oil change costs. When I watched the oil-changed dude at Maggie Valley it looked like it was more than I wanted to get into. That particular change was $100 but that was a special deal. I think the $260 ain't too far off course. IMHO

I should have named the dealer..
Central Powersports
Kissimmee, Fl

I am finding other dealers much much less, including those that you kind people have noted in your posts, many thanks.

I remember now why I only used Central PowerSports once late in 2008 and not since..Their costs are excessive and way out of line. Since they claim to be top selling dealer of BRP products I'll bet their service is lacking in work due to high costs.
