Sena SMH10 Bluetooth Communication Review

Has anyone mounted the SENA on a modular flip helmet?

I'd love to buy the unit along with earbud mount, but I'm betting that my HJC SYMAX II won't close with the SENA on there.

Dan...

I have mine on a Shoei Multitec and it works fine though the mike boom is always some place where I don't want it. I can shoot some pics with the flip up if you want.

I have mine on a HJC CL-MAX II modular and it works fine.

Well.. The SENA does not fit the HJC modulars.. Least not my SYMAX II and I don't know how it would fit the other HJC Modulars.

I can clamp it on, but only if the full face is down... I can open and close the face, but the mount is not flush with the helmet, and is riding/floating actually on the modular part of the helmet. NOT IDEAL.

So... I'm sorry for those that feel it fits. Going to have to buy a full face before Maggie Valley run just to try the SENA out.

Bah.

I am also looking into getting this for my Schuberth C3 which is a flip up, and found out that I need to get one of the optional kit, the
"SMH-A0302 Helmet Clamp Kit - Attachable Boom Microphone & Wired Microphone" in order to fit it nicely:

I guess the same goes for your Symax II. ;)

The basic SENA with boom mike fits just fine on my HJC CL-MAX.

You are telling me the SMH10 SENA does not come in any contact with the flip portion of your helmet? I find that hard to believe.

I'm taking the SENA mount with me to day to do some helmet shopping, and two of the places have HJC... We'll see.

DOH... Guess I will order something else.

On a positive note... The speakers that come with the base SENA do put out more volume... I will use that mount on another helmet.

Not sure why you are having issues mounting it on yours. My wife and I both have HJC CL-MAX II modular helmets and I easily mounted them very firmly (no wiggle) with the included attachements that came with them. Nothing extra had to be purchased.

Here is pics of mine with it staying frimly in place with modular face down and up.

Wow... Well then it is the SYMAX II that is the core culprit then. Very different design than yours... I'll add yours to the list of potential replacements.... Though I noticed that you do not have your boom mic far forward. Do you do many phone calls with this and do you find that the mic works fine that far back?

Buying a$300 helmet in order to use a $40 mount... LOL.

Further compounding my day... I found the inner sun visor guide was broken on my SYSMAX II, so I hope I find a workable helmet today.

The mic sits right at the left edge of my mouth and can be moved farther forward if you desire, but its right where I want it. I use it mainly for intercom with my wife, but we both have tried ours with cell phones and it worked great.

Price is only about $125 at Revzilla.com. http://www.revzilla.com/product/hjc-cl-max-2-solid-helmet Not the best helmet in the world, but decent and only one made in real large sizes!

Thanks Terry... That is really helpful. If I get that one, I t looks like there is room to move the mic...I really love my SYMAX II... Once you go modular it is hard to go back!

Well...I have installed the Sena units on two of our helmets this week and added a Nuvi 765T with my BB Bold to the set up. To make a long story short :2thumbs: I had to load MP3s on a SD card, to Garmin, to accomplish what I wanted to do. That is have music, GPS with voice, phone and intercom, working as designed. Revzilla had a good deal on the Sena and I purchased the Garmin through Amazon for a relative steal (refurbed). It was a lot cheaper than going with the Zumo series. I know it is not too watertite so I added a Garmin "raincoat" to my frunk if I need it. The speakers are fantastic just mounted in the helmet. Everything is working great so far. The mounting options are flexible to meet a lot of different needs. I have a modular Scorpion and wife has a full face modular HJC. Great unit , I highly recommend the Sena. Thanks, my Michigan friends, for the reviews within this thread!!! We look forward to meeting you in August. Ryde safe and God Bless!!!!

I bought an HJC IS-MAX BT flip.... Don't need the Blue tooth ready part of it, but the sena mounts fine, and the mic is in front of my mouth...
