Awhile ago I lost the left side cover for the oil tank. It just flew off with the wind and got run over by a car. I got sticker shock when I replaced it. You need to buy more than just the cover. You also need the sound/heat shield pads and the CAN AM badge. The badge is only sold in left and right pairs for about $90. The total cost was about $300 for everything.
After that burning sensation I came up with an inexpensive fix that works really well. I don't know if it had already been done by someone else, so here is my version.
1. Go to an auto parts store and get two M6 sheet metal/door nuts.
2. Also get 2 M6X12 stainless steel torx head screw. I got those on Amazon.
3. Line up the door nut on the flange where the cover attaches and drill a clearance hole through both the cover and flange.
4. Attach the door nut to the flange.
5. Install the cover and attach the screw.
The cover will never come off on its own again.
Note: Those two small holes on the flange were from an earlier experiment. Disregard.
