I have heard great things about the BRP Comfort seat. It's a direct replacement fore your stock saddle and cost is not bad, 440 bucks. Of course there is the Corbin and the Russell that many like very much, but those tend to be on the pricey side.

There is a section on this site where fellow Spyderlovers buy and sell their stuff. Check it out, you might find what you are looking for!

I got the corbin and wow what a great seat for me.Did not want to try anything else and have to sell it on e-bay.Paid the money and very happy with corbin.

This is as personal a decision as what underwear you prefer. My advice is to go to a few Spyder events, if you can, or find some other local owners, and try a couple of the different seat options. What is great for the one sometimes literally hurts another.

ISCI is a Corbin dealer. I have one black on black seat in stock, still new in the box. Let me know if you are interested.

I have the Russell and I think it's great, as many others will attest. However since they are built specifically for the rider(and passenger if you so choose), you will not get one by Nov 1. They will be starting a discount program in Nov that can save you alot of money.

Great advice,, I have the Corbin and to me it's too hard but others just LOVE this seat... I have about 2,000 miles on it so its broke in but again just for me its a bit hard... GREAT advice from NancyToy I'd take it..

Seat replacement for 2009 RS

I purchased an extra seat online, and am in the process of deciding who to go with. The Mayer brothers (Bill and Rick) each have buisinesses that make custom saddles. Bill has a 25% off sale until the end of the month, and I'm looking at $520 for both rider and passenger in leather. I will call Russell Day Long this week and get a quote.

My advice is to get as little stitching as possible on the seat; the more you puncture the leather, the less water resistant it is.

The other issue is a driver back rest. Russel makes one, but experienced riders I work with tell me that if you have a custom saddle built, you won't need one, as the seat will offer all the lower back support you need.

Decisions, decisions...:gaah:

On my 08 GS, we went with the corbin because of of the option to have a driver and passenger back rest with out having to get the sport rack and can am backrest. Bought them off of ebay and had them in less then a week. It was very easy to install and is comfy, but when riding over 100 miles with out stopping, it does make the bum hurt.:chat:

Good point. It makes sense. However, my bike already came with the passenger backrest, so the issue is do I get a backrest for myself, or not?

You will get lots of opinions on this one. Scotty has the best idea where you can maybe try several flavors of seats---however---a 100 mile plus test drive is always best. Had experience with stock, comfort seat, and 2 corbins. The get better in the order I have listed them. I tried the Utopia backrest with the stock RTS seat and it was okay--but the stock seemed to soft---then went to the Corbin seat with driver backrest. 10,000 plus miles now and still happy. The comfort seat is a good option if you are looking for mid price. Im not familier with the can-am backrest as I did not like the way it looked---so avoided that from the get go. Dual Corbin backrests would be my choice. The driver backrest will prevent a passenger from sliding into you on a stop. I drove with a passenger for a couple thousand miles this summer and had no sliding problems with the driver backrest installed. There are other threads discussing some other brands that I am not familiar with. Seats, like shorts, are a personal thing, and you may have to try a couple options before you make up your mind.

The Corbins are also made for you per your weight, inseam, etc. They have you fill out such info when ordering.

I LOVE my Corbin. One of the best mods you can do-- but you should also consider some handlebar risers(I like the ESI ones) to make you sit more upright--- which will then make you want a new windshield (I love the CHAD).

Heads up about corbin seats

We just found out last week that when our corbin seat was installed, they damaged a senser under the seat. Our dealer told us when we had it serviced, They noticed it was damaged. Its costing us about $107:gaah: for parts and labor. Were riding to Daytona this weekend and stopping by Corbin (Ormond Beach) to see if they will pay for this. this was the first time that the guy had ever installed a seat for a spyder RT. He said there would be no problem putting it on But it did take him a while to do it. We will let you know the out come. Just be aware if you are putting a Corbin seat on a RT to make sure that the sensor is turned the other way so the seat doesn't smash the sensor. JC

I got the backrest and love it, so I would say get it if you have the $$$.:2thumbs:. If not, you can get the seat and add a backrest later...

The only reason I like my Corbin is because of the good deal I got on it buying it used. To me though the 2 seats seem to slope forward too much causing the passenger and rider to slide forward when stopping. The driver backrest helps with stopping the passenger from pushing me even more forward.

I'm really tempted to see if I can find someone to grind the seat out some to lower the slope on them.

I would urge you to get the backrest if you do a lot of long distance riding. I don't use mine much in town but on the road, it really gives a lot of support to the lower back. Not only is my butt not sore after a long day, my back is in good shape too.

Thanks all...especially NancysToy's reply. And she's right, it is a personal question/choice. But because I'm still fresh in the Spyder world, I wanted to get advice/recommendations on what might work for me and where to find it. It was also a starting point and everyone helped me out tremendously. Thanks again fellow Spyders!

Just my two cents. I have a couple thousand miles on the stock seat of my 08 Spyder and have to say that I find it to be the most comfortable seat I have ridden on. Just this past weekend I put 415 miles on a day trip and not once did I feel discomfort. That is in deep contrast to riding a BMW RT where 50 miles would make my butt ache. Before that, I rode a Kawasaki Vulcan Classic on which I could get no more than 100 miles on the stock seat without the same result.

As has already been said, it really is a very personal choice.
