Seat won't open, or close

Ok I know that doesn't make any sense, the seat won't open so why do you need to close it? We stopped for gas yesterday and I tried to open the seat for fuel. Tried and tried the key with no luck. My GF tried her key and it worked, but then it would not close up. We just got on and rode. When we made our next stop, not for fuel, I slammed it good and it stuck. I am concerned that we will not be able to open it for fuel today, any thoughts?

Try pushing down hard on the seat then turn key to open it. Mine did that a few times when i first bought it. But take it to the dealer later to have them check the seat. Mine stopped sticking after i took it to dealer.

we are out of town but there is a dealer 13 miles so we will try that. Why is it that things get better when you get it to the dealer?

It might just need a little adjustment on the peg that latches the seat.

Mine did the same thing last week. The Pin needs alignment. I ran out of patience trying to align it so I took the latch off. I will have the dealer do it next time I go see them until then seat does not lock (I kinda like it that way)

you have an alignment problem. Pressure on the latch area usually works. Sometimes pushing and pulling while holding the key to the open position also helps get it open. Once open check to see if the pin aligns with the latch or if you have something obstructing the latch. Dealer should be able to help you out if your on the road..good luck..one other thing that happens is you turn the key in the wrong direction, it happens to me from time to time but then I have to concentrate on my left and right...:roflblack:

Hope you get it solved quickly. Not a major problem--but very irritating. Sounds like allignment/pin issues, if its not the key.

When you do get the seat open, lube the head of the pin and the latch plate. You may also have a loose pin or an adjustment (alignment) problem, but lack of lube on the pin and plate is a common cause of catching...and lubing these is often overlooked during maintenance, especially by owners who do their own maintenance.

Thanks all. Seems to be Ok now we as suggested pushed down on the seat before turning th ekes and it worked fine. We will have the dealer check it out when we return.

Having to push down on the seat before turning the key is a sign that lube is needed. Adjustment may also be needed. A couple of s,all dabs of synthetic grease are the prescribed lubricant and last the longest, but a variety of other lubricants can be used...even oil or silicone spray in a pinch.

To align the pin you have to make an adjustment at the hinge point of the seat . The hinge has a slotted mount ,the bolts may be lose and moved, you will need a 10 mil. wrench. And a second pair of hands to move and hold seat while you set and tighten the bolts.
