Seat Dilemma

We have a 2015RT LTD with stock seat. I'm 6'1" and 195#,always ride 2 up with the wife. It seems like I'm always sliding forward slightly and can't get real comfortable, have an airhawk also and still slide. The seat also irritates my upper inner thighs where they meet the seat. Maybe a new seat with a narrower front section and canted slightly back will solve this? I know seats are a very subjective issue, just thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks.

There have been many discussions on here about seats. The most recent was this; http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?107273-Custom-Seats&highlight=comfort+seat

It sounds like you may need a comfort seat or the like, which gives the driver more legroom at the expense of the passenger. The other thing to try (for longer rides) is to add a highway peg that allows you to stretch your legs more. Finally, you don't say if you have the Triaxial handlebars, but being able to adjust the handlebars to a more comfortable position can also be a factor in driver seating position / comfort.

Thanks Pete, I've thought about the pegs, easier to push back with legs a bit extended than straight down on the boards. Wife is pretty comfortable and don't want to encroach much into that space.

There is still plenty of space for passenger.
My wife is not a small woman and has never complained about the loss of 2"s.
The key, is dont tell the passenger otherwise you get the placebo effect!

I'm only 5'8" with 29" inseam but I had the same constant feeling of being pushed, or sliding, forward. I got a Comfort seat and haven't had the feeling since. I ride without any add-ons to the seat and find it quite comfortable. Did 6650 miles to Homecoming and back and never had a problem with the seat.

I too find the same issue of always sliding forward and can't seem to get comfortable. I have the comfort seat and an Air Hawk R and the Air Hawk seems to make it worse for me. I bought the comfort seat mainly to get back a little in hopes to have better access to the brake pedal which led to Tri-Axis handlebars for a better reach. I got the air hawk to try and help with my sciatica issues I have after an hour or so but not much help but I've always had that problem on any motorcycle I've had. I have the NBV highway pegs that do help me in stretching out and getting in kind of a cruiser position. The NBV highway pegs have helped me the most with the sliding forward feeling and the sciatica. From everything I read a Russel Day Long would be the ticket.

But then every time I stop by the dealership and sit on an F3 it feels so very comfortable. I might see an F3 in the future.

i too went to a comfort seat and the wife still has good room.the only thing that bothered
me on both seats was the stitching on each side where your inner leg hits. either a plush
towel or a piece of imitation sheepskin is what i use to cover them. also have a utopia backrest with a 1" setback.

My wife complains of the lack of passenger space since we switched from our goldwing to the 60 RTL. We have a comfort seat and I too seem to slid and have some discomfort after an hour or two. I will probably go to a local upholstery guy to have the seat redone rather than buy a cookie cutter seat from one of the big manufacturers. That way I can have the seat built to what we like best. Just my thoughts. Chris

I switched to the Ultimate Tall Boy seat on my 2015 RTS. I'm tall like you at 6'2" and with the stock seat, I too felt like I was sliding toward the front of the bike. The Ultimate Tall Boy cured that problem as you sit more down in the seat. Plus I also ride with a Airhawk R seat pad. Back in July, did a 9100 mile trip out west and my butt never complained.

Just wondering how you like the Air Hawk seat. Does it raise you up much? I am about 5'-11" but have longer legs. I get cramps in the hip joints on our 2011 RTS. I don't know much about them but have read some good reviews, but thought maybe some highway pegs and the Hawk seat might help. Thanks for any input!

Uticat,

Although I am at 5'8" I had the same issues as you with my inner thighs. I tried the CanAm comfort seat, but it took away to much for the passenger. I then tried the Ultimate seat, but sadly that pressed more on my inner thighs causing pain after 50 miles, and they will not make adjustments to their seats. I finally did what I should have done from the start - ordered a Russel Day Long. These are custom made to you so you can have them reduce the area where your thighs meet the seat.
Now I can ride all day without the leg pain.

RDL all day long....

+1 for RDL

We have installed the Russel Day Long seat just this spring on our 2014 RTL... Why did we wait so long??:banghead: Much more enjoyable on long trips! Passenger really likes the comfort as well. :D We also went with a heated seat for those cooler rides at the start and end of our MN riding season!
