There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Seat belt!

Look up my post on this months ago, you will see the same crap.

I have studied the last 11 Spyder accidents 7 out of the 11 stayed upright and the people for the most part flew off and were killed and a few severely injured. For me I know if I stand on my bike and jump off I will probably get hurt. If I fly off, I know that I will get hurt, maybe killed, but worse only half killed.

I installed them and wear them, what most people that nay say can't get out of their heads that its not a 2 wheeler. I ride with a bunch of trikes, most are considering adding seat belts. Joe (Joy & Ann) and I have discussed this, I doubt if he has added them to Ann's yet but he no longer says that I'm nuts.

Screw what people are saying if you think that you would be safer, go to a junk yard and get the center belts out of pickups. There are 4 bolts in the right place under the seat, you just need longer bolts. And no they don't scratch the plastic.

Do you have photos of what your set-up looks like and how it works?

I don't know who Joy is but Joe and I (Ann) have no plans at all to put seat belts on my Spyder. PS I think Joe still thinks you're nuts.

No! I never said that I wanted to install them on my spyder! won't be a bad idea if it works!
Glad to hear that I'm not the first one or the only one with the thought, though!

We have a number of paralyzed ryders on this forum and they all strap themselves in with velcro straps. The sheer strength of a 2 x 2in hook and loop is about 200 lbs. Most owners are probably below that weight. Driving down the highway at 70 mph and you meet a force of equal or greater resistance you will be launched hundreds of feet. If you hit something while in the air your body will be destroyed. Simple physics. Those of us who were in the EMS have seen this many times with unrestrained riders in a car who are launched through a windshield in head ons. I have personally seen 5 members in one car dismembered when they met a semi at 70. Not a one was restrained. Teenagers all. On the other hand people who wear lap belts risk being cut in half but most survive. None of those wear helmets. I realize there are exceptions. But lets be pragmatic. We drive these 1000 lbs machines for fun and freedom. Nobody is going to tell us what to do. Its the price we pay.

Seat belt on soyder

Just a word of advice from someone who has tried it . A few years ago while riding a conventional trike my wife complained that every time we went over a speed bump she bounced on the seat . She wanted a seat belt . I installed one and she was happy . Then one day as we pulled away from a traffic light a driver of a large pickup was talking on his cell phone and failed to see us along side of him . He changed lanes to the left resulting in his left front wheel hitting my right rear wheel . He hit the the gas instead of the brake which lifted the right side of the trike causing it to flip over on its left side . As I had been riding motorcycles for about 60 years I kicked away as hard as I could . I hit the pavement sliding . Injuries-Skinned my elbows and knees ,broken left shoulder blade and deep scratches on my helmet . My wife being secured by a seatbelt stayed on the trike . she slammed into the pavement hard . Injuries- left arm broken in three places , broken left cheekbone - requiring extensive surgery , broken left shoulder blade and totally destroyed helmet .
I learned two things from this 1 never wear a seat belt on a motorcycle 2 Anyone talking or texting on a phone while driving should be executed instantly before the can further pollute the gene pool .

THANKS FOR THE PHOTOS!
IF THE WORLD SHOULD BLOW IT SELF UP, THE LAST AUDIBLE VOICE WOULD BE THAT OF AN EXPERT SAYING, IT CAN'T BE DONE!

The horseless carriage was never a serious chalenge for the bicycle, well in 2005 53 million horseleless carriages( automobiles) were release into the world! :2thumbs:
Some people cant think outside the box untill someone else does it for them, then they say; WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?

They said in the early 70s, computers would never generate enough interes in the world!
MAYORITY IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT! DON'T ANYONE GET OFFENDED NOW!

I think that George's post says it all...
It's foolish to tie yourself to the World's Largest Hammer...

...As it tries to beat you into the World's Bloodiest Tent-Peg! nojoke

Leave yourself the ability to get away from it...

George's post is just one incident. Like the rest of us our sympathies are with his wife. Like I said, 7 out of the 11 Spyder accidents in the last 12 months stayed upright and the riders were thrown off and injured or killed.

I remember when seat beats were first available and EVERYONE said "no way, I don't want to get trapped in a burning car". I've flipped two cars and the seat belt saved my life, and I actually was trapped in a burning car by a jammed seat belt. BUT I don't leave my driveway without my seat belt.

Smart people go with the odds, not the prevailing opinion. I've made a lot of money consulting with companies where "we have always done it that way" was their mantra and wondered why they are going broke.

Just my opinion, YMMV. It seems like we have government agencies that love to regulate everything they can, especially if safety can be tagged to it. I believe that if there was any possible way they could justify it, seatbelts would be mandatory for bikes.

Wearing a seatbelt in a car makes sense... You have the occupant compartment around you: it has been designed to absorb impacts. Being loose inside the vehicle just means that you'll be hammered to death by being pounded against every interior surface of the vehicle. nojoke
No such protective compartment exists on a motorcycle, and it's difficult to reasonably assume that your bike won't be tipped-over in a collision. You ARE what is going to be wadded-up first! :yikes:

There's no good way to have a motorcycle accident. That being said: I'll take my chances with the ability to escape an ugly situation; that looks to be getting even uglier. nojokenojoke

THIS is why you don't want a seat belt on your Spyder...

George's post is just one incident...
Here's another...

FWIW, at least one of our forum members owes his life to NOT having a seat belt on his Spyder. I remember reading this post from "RetiredCPO" two years ago. (More details later in the thread.) Looking at the picture, it was amazing that he lived to write the post and include the picture. He saw the accident coming and instinctively stood up on the floorboards and braced his thighs against the hand grips, and leaned his body over the dash. Unbelievably, he was able to untangle himself from his crushed Spyder. He was badly bruised in multiple areas throughout his body, but no broken bones. Had he been wearing a seat belt he surely would have died.

That was one of the most memorable threads I've ever read on the forum. RetiredCPO has never posted after this thread, so we can only assume and hope that he has fully recovered by now, but no longer owns a Spyder.

(Shortly after reading this thread in 2014 I installed the Signal Dynamics Wig-Wag modulating brake light system on my RT to complement the high third brake light I already had.)
