• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

SE6 or SM6?

For me, it's the SM6 and the main reason is that the SM6 does not have floorboards. A lot of people like floorboards but they are not comfortable for me. I test rode an SE5 way back and liked the transmission just fine. I could live with either transmission but I can't live with floorboards. As far as resale, personally, I never even consider it. I ride what I like, not what I think the next owner will like. I'll probably ride my 2010 long enough that there won't be much difference in resale value, none of them will bring much.

SE for Me see the reason below :-

For me and maybe a few others with a left leg disability the SE Transmission has been a godsend We can ride the Spyder with no alterations needed

I had polio when I was a child which left me unable to use my left leg I wear a KAFO (Full length support)
I rode 2 wheel motorcycles adapted to allow me to use a hand change to select the gears as the leaver was on the LHS (All motorcycles apart from some British and others had it on this side) with the brake lever on the RHS

I had a rod made to connect to the Gear leaver and used my Right hand to push/pull this leaver to change gear
in the last few years I discovered the Kliktronic electronic push button gear change and this was fitted to my last 2 wheeler BMW K100LT

See http://www.kliktronic.co.uk/lik

When the Spyder came out with the SE Transmission it was so easy to ride and I have not had to make any Adjustments/Alterations - I could ride a SM But would need to fit the Kliktronic anyway so this would add to the cost
So for me the extra cost has not been an issue

For safety the SE ensures I am in the correct gear and is useful should I have to do an emergency stop the Spyder will be in 1st gear ready for me to carry on

I think a test on both so you compare both side by side - Decide which will suit you best and if planning to keep the Spyder sometime go with what will suit your style of riding in the long term

Either way enjoy you your choice just need to decided on Model, Spec, Colour etc

I am still riding my 2010 Model and will upgrade in about 2yrs time so I have plenty of time to make my mind up but by then I suspect they may be even more choices to make such is life

I broke the middle finger on my left hand awhile back. So operating the clutch with my left hand gets quite bothersome after 20 minutes in heavy traffic. So for me the SE is really nice.

I love the electric shift, and I've put only about 300 miles on my RT so far! I've had a Honda Foreman ATV with electric shift for over 6 years, but it's not automatic. Because of that experience, and the fact the RT steers somewhat like an ATV, the only problem I've really encountered, is having a tendency when I climb on the RT and start to take off, is reach for the thumb throttle! :gaah::opps: It's a good thing hitting the start button doesn't cause a problem!

Go with what you enjoy. I just traded in my 2011 SM 5 for a 2014 SE6. I absolutely loved the 2011. With only 260 miles on the new one, I absolutely love it too. It's hard to determine if my current stupid grin is generated from the change to the SE or to new the 1330cc/6 speed combo. It's not even a fair comparison and either way I'm still smiling.

Made the final decision

Thanks for all the input and help on this subject.

My dealer has only been getting the 2014s withe SE6 so that is what I test rode and that is what I bought.

I figured that I've had manual transmissions all my life so there wouldn't be a noticeably different than anything I've ridden in the past.

Well, I really like the SE6. Paddle shifting is somehow, more refined, more civilized, more touring like if you will. Granted, not words to describe most motorcycles but I'm thinking this transmission is putting Spyders in the same area as cars were in the early 70s when Automatics were a rare upgrade and manual was the standard. I'm thinking it makes a lot of sense to migrate more motorcycle transmissions to auto and that will continue.

Only got 39 miles on it on the ride home from the dealer last night and need to practice with up and downshifting RPMs but so far, I really like it.

Thanks again for all your help.
