• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. SE5 transmission Ground

Does anyone have a picture or description of the new SE5 transmission ground update? I believe that is update 2009-3.

I thought...

that particular ground setup was for the oil cooler and coil mount. Isn't there a second ground update for the SE5 transmission shifter?

As far as I know this is the one you are speaking of,, I know of no other ground update other then this.. Maybe its me, hopefully someone will charm in but as I know it to be this is it..

xpeschon ...

Thanks for the information. I installed this ground several weeks ago. Did it myself. I got the impression there was another one since it was the dealer that said I needed a ground and they had it in the shop for the 600 mile checkup.

If they didn't install it, it would show as "Needed" in the system until they marked it installed. If you did it yourself, both the coil and the radiator need to be grounded to duplicate the BRP solution.

Yes, this was for SE5s, the thought being that the coil and possibly the radiator were broadcasting or picking up signals - and screwing up the GPS (or one of the other sensors). I don't think there ever was an official posting on the full reasoning behind it.

I did this...

ground modification on the SM5s too. If the problem, which is caused by RFI energy, is being encountered on the SE5 shifter then it could possibly show up on the SM5 as something... maybe surging, missing or something else that is being experienced on the SMs.

Radio Frequency Interference does some pretty strange things sometimes.

Hmmmmm . . . .

Thanks! That is an excuse I have never used before - I am sure it will come in handy soon. :D

But, no joke, I agree and it could not hurt anything.

I have been wondering why BRP wanted to ground the oil cooler. Still not sure it makes sense that the cooler could be broadcasting RF acquired from the coil pack or other sources. But I suppose BRP wanted to eliminate all possibilities and a wire with crimped ends is cheap insurance.

I guess you learn something every day.

Scotty! Why didn't you explain this to me sooner? :dontknow:

Anytime you have...

air with moisture blowing through anything you get a slight buildup of electrical static energy. Static electrical energy, lightening for example, will discharge at some point from positive charge to negative charge in the immediate area. When you get this discharge you also get a Radio frequency burst across the frequency band. Any electronics that is RFI sensitive within range of this RFI burst may be affected in a negative way. I suppose it could possibly be affected in a positive way but I don't recall ever seeing a positive from an RFI burst.

This is a brief description and just the surface of this phenomenon

I am planning on taking mine in to the dealer on Friday, as my wife had some shifting issues with it the last time it was ridden. It may have something to do with how many times it has been ridden in the rain already as well.

Thanks for the information as it gives me something to discuss with the dealer.
