There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. SE5 Riser Install 100% Complete!

I finished up the install on my risers and completed a test ride. The riser kit is intended for use on the SM5 but with some simple mods will work on an SE5.

Cable Routing
The throttle side on the SE5 is the same as the SM5 so I won't write about it. The shifter side has 2 electrical cables to deal with (headlight cluster and shifter). The headlight cable has enough slack if you cut some tie wraps. The shifter cable needs to come around the front of the riser and was much too short for me.

The solution was to unplug the shifter cable from the harness, pull it out of the rats nest, and reroute it in a more direct manner. I suggest tying a string around the connector body so if it gets stuck as you pull it out you have a way to get it unstuck. Take your time it does come out but its very tight. You will need to remove silver/yellow/red shroud to gain access to this cable.

Throttle Side Install

Everything installs per the other writeups so I won't say anything about it here.

Shifter Side Install
If you install the shifter side without modification its not gonna work....if you try and force it I'm afraid you might end up cracking the shifter housing. The trick is to install a 1/8 inch spacer between the bar and the riser block (my spacer was .113 inches [3 washers drilled out]). In this configuration the shifter cable is run in front of then under the riser block. You will be limited as to how far back you can rotate the bars forward without affecting the angle of the shifter block.

I am 5'6" and I think I actually need to rotate the bars toward me another 1/2 inch which is no problem. Bottom line: no problem rotating the bars toward you but there is a limit on how far away from you the bars can be moves (again without affecting the angle of the shifter).

Spacers
In my install the spacers are removed from the original bars. The shifter side you install it with the open end pointing at the shifter. With the bar spacer installed it fits perfectly. The throttle side the spacer is installed with the open side pointing at the throttle but I had to trim 1/4 inch off the spacer to make it fit.

Final Assembly
All controls mount into the index slots provided. The grips install as expected and fit perfectly. When all is said and done, the shifter side sticks out 1/8 inch more than the throttle side (not noticeable at all).

How would I modify the SM5 parts?
+ Extend the shifter bar 1/8 inch on the threaded end
+ Remove the relief cut for the clutch reservoir
+ Add a small relief cut for the shifter (maybe 1/4 inch or so)

Final Comments

I ran out of light to take some pics, but I will post some in the morning. My test ride was sweet! This mod was worth every penny let me tell you. I spoke with Magic Man this afternoon and it sounds like he is going to make some parts that are specific to the SE5.

Help !

They look killer ! How did you get all your slack ? This morning I pulled the windshield for more working room , the speedometer assembly and the rubber part that goes around the steering column. The 2 wire bundles from the control unit route behind another cable that goes up to handlebars . Did you remove the complete handlebar unit ? I have no clue how to do this. After these 2 bundles go around the cable to the handlebars, they run straight toward the center / front of the Spyder and disappear under part of the frame. I pulled the side covers and still couldn't see where they went. I finally got tired of messing with it ( mostly concerned I'd screw something up ) put everything back together - Then installed my Hindle ( really easy and nice ! ) and went for a ride.

Again...great job ! If I can get mine working and looking like yours, I'm not going to send mine back.

Any detailed info that helps me overcome my obvious lack of cable skills would be GREATLY appreciated.

I suspect the cable length problem will be an issue for all SE5 owners unless you settle for the 1 inch riser offered by BRP.

To get the slack here's a procedure:

1) take out the instrument cluster (manual tells you how)
2) open the trunk and remove the cover over the fuses (computer symbol on it pull up on it)
3) Remove the silver/yellow/etc shroud. There are two torx screws up front and two of those plastic rivets under the seat. It slides right out.
4) Locate the shifter plug

See the yellow wires? on my spyder that was the shifter cable. There were 2 cable ties to cut (they were a bitch to get at). At this point try to get some slack on the shifter cable...if you are lucky you will have enough and can skip the next steps.

5) Unplug the shifter plug from the harness use a small screwdriver to pry down the latch.

6) Tie a string to the connector body (not wires) so you have a way to get the connector unstuck.

7) Gently work the connector thru the frame rail and rats nest of wires.

8) Once its out you can simply reroute it over the frame rail past the headlights etc...it should be obvious.

There are 2 cables shifter and headlights/horn/directonals. I did not follow the second cable but i'm pretty sure it goes to the same area. Others have done risers without having to remove this cable.

After cutting the cable ties there seemed to be enough slack on my bike. Its close at full lock but you're only going to be there for u-turns etc.

handlebar risers and mirror obstruction.

The stock mirrors already are poorly placed and need extensions to give a full field of view. Did you improve the field of view or make it worse by installing the risers?

Unfortunately Worse

Yep .... unfortunately worse. Half and half - One half my hand and one half what's behind me. I think that the extensions would help but I wonder would the extensions cause the mirrors to vibrate more causing a blurred reflection ? Anyone with extensions and risers ?

Nope... no additional vibration. They're great.

What a great job. I wish I could do it myself. I want to add them but my dealership will probably charge $500 to install them...
