Scratched my mirrors

I bought some spot mirrors and put them in place. I decided I wanted to move them to another location. I did this at night with poor lighting. I got out my razor blade scraper to remove the spot mirrors and relocate them. I got a drop light to be sure I had removed all the residue only to find that I had badly scratched both mirrors:barf:I have done this on many motorcycles and never scratched the mirrors before. Hope you can learn from my mistake.

Steven sorry to hear about the mirrors. What size spots did you and whats the best location for them.

I used 1 and 1/2 inch tilting round spots from Advance Auto, but I'm sure other similar ones are available from most any auto parts place or Walmart. I initially put them to the inside of the mirror. They should have been put on the outside of the mirror. I was on the BRP parts website and found that you can not buy only the mirror. You have to buy almost the entire assembly in order to get a new mirror.:yikes: I don't even want to know what BRP wants for that.
I was back at Advance last night for some fuses and found that there is a replacement mirror material.:clap: You can cut it to any size. I got a sheet for about $10 and am going to try that. My mirrors aren't so badly scratched that they are unusable but the scratches are bothersome and just ruin the looks of the mirrors. I had no idea that the mirrors were not glass like every other bike I have had. It's partly my own fault for attempting the job in such poor light. In better light I could have stopped when I saw the razor scraper was causing mirror damage. Oh well, live and learn, and admit your mistakes to your friends so that won't make them too.
