I just finished my installation of my “two way” transceiver alarm system. For those of you who are not familiar with the Scorpion system, in the event someone messes with your bike, the alarm will sound and at the same time it transmits a signal to your remote and you get both a vibrate and alarm to let you know exactly what type of alarm you had – i.e. hot wired, movement, or just a perimeter alarm.
After spending a few days looking over the machine, I decided the easiest location was right under the electronics cover. Here it is protected from the weather and extreme heat and the best part is - all the wiring needed was available right there at the fuse panel on the right side.
After mounting the motherboard / alarm module, I ran the antenna up in a vertical position in the dash / gauge area. For the Perimeter sensor I wanted a location in the center of the bike so it would have a good “view” of the surrounding area. I chose to mount it right in the center of the bike under the plastic tank panel. Two push locks under the seat and two hex bolts forward is all that need to be removed to gain access. In addition, this location is totally dry from weather.
For power - I need a full time 12 volt source - a switched 12 volt source and ground. By lifting out the fuse panel it gave me pretty easy access to the 12 V pigtail for the 12 volt lighter. When you lift out the fuse panel, you‘ll see the pigtail tie wrapped to the frame (don’t ask me why they made this so difficult) anyhow, I tapped into this circuit for my ground and switched 12 volt source. While I was there I installed the 12 volt lighter without removing either the trunk or the fog light cover as they suggested.
For a “always on” circuit, I tapped into the fused 12 volt line labeled “fog lights” on the fuse panel (don’t know why it’s always hot) anyhow the wire is green in color and easy to find.
I now have three of these alarms on my bikes and it’s without a doubt the best alarm for the money. When your in a motel room, or restaurant it gives you great security to know some goofy kid isn’t climbing on your bike or some lowlife is trying to snatch it. The alarm can be found at numerous locations the 600ie is the one you want it comes with ignition cutoff, alarm module, battery backup, perimeter alarm and rechargeable backlit remote transceiver.
