Scenic ride in upper Northeast Vermont!

I was feeling kind of down and depressed this past weekend. It just seems that things in my life haven't been going so easy for me lately, teenage kid issues, financial issues, lost of income and heartbreaks. What else can go wrong? Well, my kids were gone for the weekend and I had a lot of time to think. I decided to take a road trip. Just me and the spyder to Vermont's North East Kingdom in the northern part of the state. I go up there in the winter months frequently to go snowmobiling. Anyhow, it was good therapy for me. I went early Sunday morning without a plan. I just took the roads to nowhere in what here in Vermont we call
"God's Country". Miles of wooded forests, lakes, streams, wildlife and breath taking views. On this day there was sun, clouds, storms and winds. The weather patterns were unpredictable. I took in all in stride and was prepared for the ride. I took with me my heated gear, rain gear and packed extra clothes in the event I wouldn't go back home. But I did make it home, about 300 miles later. Yes! just me and the spyder. In the end it was a good day. It was worth the ride. I took many pictures. Enjoy!

A few pictures of a nice pond at the beginning of my trip heading out on route 118 between Belvidiere and Eden Vermont:

Then I was off on Route 114 heading east all the way to Canaan Vermont. This is a couple shots of Wallace Pond near Canaan:

On the same route coming back from Canaan I was caught in a thunderstorm and it was pooring buckets of rain. Lucky for me, because I've been in this area in the winter months snowmobiling. I knew of this rustic Bar and Grill restaurant called "Chez Pidgon's" just about two to three miles up the road and there was no other place close by for about 20 miles each way. So I took a break at this place. I sat at the bar and had a tasty cheeseburger and good ole homemade fries, along with a nice cold beer. I was the only customer at the time, but had some good conversation with the people that were running the place. I had my meal and the storm subsided and I was off on the road again.

This is Norton Pond off route 114 in Norton Vermont:

Then I turned off route 114 and headed west on Route 111. These are some shots of Seymour Lake in Morgan Vermont off Route 111:

Then a storm was coming in:

Back on Route 111 where it will take me to Route 105 going west. In Derby this is an Elk farm just outside the village:

Going west on route 105 between North Troy and Richford Vermont are some breathtaking views at the top of the mountain road. It's too bad it was so cloudy out:

From route 105 west it was back on route 118 south. This is a covered bridge just off route 118 in Montgomery Vermont:

I hope you all enjoyed these pics! I would sometimes like to plan a Northern Vermont Spyderlovers ride if some of you can plan on it. I would gladly be the tour guide. ;)

Beautiful, beautiful country!! I'm glad you enjoyed your ryde! How could you not with that scenery?!

I would come up for a group ryde in a heartbeat!

I decided to take a road trip. Just me and the spyder...Yes! just me and the spyder...

Just beautiful.

But next time you decide to go on a ryde alone, you should tell some of us neighbors so we can, you know, go with you...:joke:

Very nice pics! And you know what? This too will pass - kids get older and become less PITAs and eventually will be on their own - cherish the insanity while you can. Money matters do tend to stink but you know what - you definitely aren't alone! I think all of us are feeling the pinch moneywise and jobwise.

As for heartbreak, all that means is it wasn't meant to be - you just haven't met her just yet. She will come along and you'll forget all about the heartbreaks. It happens when you least expect it!

I really want to get up there in August. Kind of got a crazy summer right now but maybe we can fit a weekend in up there before taht - we can all meet up at that tasty diner again!

If you feel let down, just remember this saying and you'll get through the day just fine....(I have this typed out and it's in my folder - first thing I look at when I get in to work).....

"“If you've got them by the b@lls their hearts and minds will follow.” John Wayne - just remember - always have them by the b@lls and you'll be good to go!:doorag:

Awesome scenery, I am glad it helped. This spyder and where it can take you sure can be therapeutic.

Thanks for posting the pics, and sharing the ride. I am hoping to make it up to Newport to visit my son sometime this Summer. I will contact you we can meet up. Vermont is beautiful country.

Man, those pic's make me homesick!

Great route you took. I've done that area on the snowmobile a lot and crossed at Derby line coming back from Homecoming last summer.

Thank you for the encouragement Smylinacha! Sometimes having good friends to chat with does help and is much appreciated.

Mike, It is awsome snowmobiling up there in the winter. It's amazing how much wilderness there is in the little old Green Mountain State! I hope I didn't make you too home sick. Like I said, if yourself or anyone has the time and is game, I'm up to organizing a ride. I plan on taking some vacation time sometimes in August. Maybe I'll plan something then.

Spyder ryding is great therapy. Your ride looks like it took you to some beautiful places. Times do seem to get tough; sometimes it helps to just count your blessings. Hope things start going your way. Your day will come.

Sounds good! I'll keep that in mind.
It sure would be great to get eveyone together again like we did in Brattleboro. The Newport area has plenty of lodging options and places to dine out. It would make a good starting destination.

Thank You GI Jane! Today is another day and I do have my blessings that is for sure!

.... there is this site called bikerornot.com. It's a site where you hook up w/ people who ride in your area. I went on it once, signed up cuz I wanted a women's group but never got back on it but I know people who use it to hook up so you might find a cool woman rider on there or a cool chick who wants to ride biatch!

And as for the kids - we got the two 19 yr olds home now. All I can say is from all the complaining I did when my kid was in his "terrible twos" (which lasted till age 5), I'd take that any day over young adulthood. They are good kids but they grow up so fast and I really miss the fun baby, toddler stage!
