I was feeling kind of down and depressed this past weekend. It just seems that things in my life haven't been going so easy for me lately, teenage kid issues, financial issues, lost of income and heartbreaks. What else can go wrong? Well, my kids were gone for the weekend and I had a lot of time to think. I decided to take a road trip. Just me and the spyder to Vermont's North East Kingdom in the northern part of the state. I go up there in the winter months frequently to go snowmobiling. Anyhow, it was good therapy for me. I went early Sunday morning without a plan. I just took the roads to nowhere in what here in Vermont we call
"God's Country". Miles of wooded forests, lakes, streams, wildlife and breath taking views. On this day there was sun, clouds, storms and winds. The weather patterns were unpredictable. I took in all in stride and was prepared for the ride. I took with me my heated gear, rain gear and packed extra clothes in the event I wouldn't go back home. But I did make it home, about 300 miles later. Yes! just me and the spyder. In the end it was a good day. It was worth the ride. I took many pictures. Enjoy!
A few pictures of a nice pond at the beginning of my trip heading out on route 118 between Belvidiere and Eden Vermont:
A few mountain views off Rte 58 in Lowell Vermont:
Some shots of Lake Willoughby in Westmore Vermont off Rte 5:
Lake Memphremagog in Newport Vermont on US Route 105:
Lake Salem just outside of Derby Vermont on Route 105:
Island Pond in Brighton Vermont on Route 105:
Then I was off on Route 114 heading east all the way to Canaan Vermont. This is a couple shots of Wallace Pond near Canaan:
On the same route coming back from Canaan I was caught in a thunderstorm and it was pooring buckets of rain. Lucky for me, because I've been in this area in the winter months snowmobiling. I knew of this rustic Bar and Grill restaurant called "Chez Pidgon's" just about two to three miles up the road and there was no other place close by for about 20 miles each way. So I took a break at this place. I sat at the bar and had a tasty cheeseburger and good ole homemade fries, along with a nice cold beer. I was the only customer at the time, but had some good conversation with the people that were running the place. I had my meal and the storm subsided and I was off on the road again.
This is Norton Pond off route 114 in Norton Vermont:
Then I turned off route 114 and headed west on Route 111. These are some shots of Seymour Lake in Morgan Vermont off Route 111:
Then a storm was coming in:
Back on Route 111 where it will take me to Route 105 going west. In Derby this is an Elk farm just outside the village:
Going west on route 105 between North Troy and Richford Vermont are some breathtaking views at the top of the mountain road. It's too bad it was so cloudy out:
From route 105 west it was back on route 118 south. This is a covered bridge just off route 118 in Montgomery Vermont:
I hope you all enjoyed these pics! I would sometimes like to plan a Northern Vermont Spyderlovers ride if some of you can plan on it. I would gladly be the tour guide.
