Sure does. Mine uses no fuel at all when in neutral for the obvious reason. if you're talking about dropping an SM5 into neutral while doing hiway speeds you're asking for BIG trouble. If fuel economy is an issue for you don't use it.

I can't imagine any situation where the right answer would be yes.

I don't know Bob, I saw one the other day that was in neutral doing about 75 on the freeway and he wasn't using any gas at all. He had no problem maintaining his speed.

That pickup with that trailer and bike behind it was going up and down those hills with ease. :yes::yes:

i don't know if it is true or not, but years ago i knew a old man that would put his car in neutral to save gag when he coasted. it was a automatic, and people told him that doing that would cause pressure on all the valves inside the transmission, and that could create failure

I saw a truck driver who put his big truck into neutral going down a BIG hill trying to save fuel. When he started to pick up too much speed he tried to put in into gear to let the engine slow him down it wouldn't go in......he hit the runaway truck ramp about 1/2 way down the hill with his brakes on fire.
Not a good idea to put anything in neutral at freeway speeds, yo are giving up some control over what you are driving by doing so.

This isn't a safe practice, whether you would save gas ????? every article I have read says NO ....... But this will save you MONEY - which the same idea ..... use 87 octane ( if you aren't now ) you have the V-twin ( I had two ) and it runs very nice on 87 oct. which is a 30 to 50 cent saving per gallon .............. Not enough...

I sometimes pull in the clutch on the steep downhill to enjoy the quiet and wind rushing by....but in the long run you save nothing cause when you throttle up to get back to your crusing speed you use up all you may have saved sometimes more. Work more on what crusing speed is the most economical...I can't ryde at that speed....:roflblack::roflblack: so I pay the extra buck per tankful....

I had a 1966 Saab, (three cylinder, 2 cycle) that had a "freewheeling" mode. The mode allowed the car to coast at will--thus saving some gas. Gas was around 35 cents a gallon in those days, and the car got over 35 mpg anyway. I did not use freewheeling much.

Currently, I leave both my spyders in N when they are in the garage at night. I use no gas during the procedure.

I would not recommend this procedure on the highway at 70 mph with spyders. :thumbup:

I put my 08 :spyder2: in neutral at traffic lights, get a good stretch, clap the hands etc. can't imagine it saves gas but it makes me hurry when the light turns green. :banghead:

I wouldn't pot my Spyder at all. But if you're going to pot it, then I've heard nuetral is the best soil for that. Saves the atmosphere from too much methane gas.

This driver was either drunk, stupid or his 1st. ever experience driving a big truck. Big trucks have no synchronizers in the transmission. Once the transmission RPM is higher than the engine can rev you are SOL. Typical high RPM in any big diesel is 2200 RPM. Most fleets detune them down to 1800 for fuel economy.
