There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Save the Manuel's

I see not all models of the new ST will be offered in sm5 they will loose my business if the se becomes the only choice I know the autos out sell the Manuel's and the main demographic is new and older riders but they need to bring in younger riders who want sportier rides and the younger crowd is the future for continued business in the future, if money is the issue then run a couple less TV ads, not everyone lives in a city where they need an auto it's not just the 1500 differance in price there is more heat on the foot more parts more cost at oil change and waaaay more issues with the se5 one look at the posts will prove that I want to shift for myself thank you very much

:agree: The manual transmission will remain part of the selection. I am guessing though, that it will only be on the "low end" models. I have owned one spyder with the SM5 and the other three all had the SE5 transmission. I don't miss the SM5, but the OP is right--there seems to be more problems with the SE5's.

BRP has made the decision to equip their limiteds with the ESSIE as the only transmssion choice. It actually kind of makes sense; give the top model all of the goodies that you can stuff in it and leave the other models with more room for upgrades.

SE5

The Semi auto transmission, also known as SE5, is not an upgrade in my opinion.

i might not have bought a canam Spyder if it did not come in Manual. And I think that it's a bad decisision to make the limited versions SE because now you know that you are loosing all your potential buyers who want a manual transmission and the top line model.

They could buy the RT-S and add the upgrades to it then...
Build their very own limited with a clutch lever!

The Manual was a needed factor for me to pick up my RT today as I couldn,t afford any more than the $17000 I paid.
It will probably be good for me as it will stimulate my Brain and God knows I need that?

Re: Save the Manuals

I quite enjoy shifting the SM. My wife still hasn't piloted it and is totally intimidated by the clutch. Other than starting on hills with a heavy load, there's just nothing more to coordinate with the SM. With the SE, you still have to remember to roll off the throttle at intersections, so the tranny will go into first and a few other idiosyncrasies, so there doesn't seem to be less to "remember". Given a true automatic option and I would have been all over it. I'm in no way knocking the SE and tons of people benefitting from the configuration. I do think it's sad the limited isn't offered with manual. I would have been way more likely to go for the limited in that combo. Love the color choices and extra goodies. Loved the simplicity of the SM even more.

In recent years I have had 3 large automatic "maxiscooters" & loved the CVT transmissions.

When I bought my used, 100miles only, '08 GS this summer the salesman said the manual version was less likely to be in his repair bay than the SE5 version. This used one I bought is manual.

Now that I don't have to balance the bike at stop signs & stop lights I actually enjoy changing gears again. Luckily I don't have a disability that hinders that.

I don't anticipate buying another Spyder in my lifetime as I'm 73 & broke.

Who is Manuel?

Who is Manuel? Is he hispanic..needs saving from what? ..just kidding..
on the subject, having a manual trans is a must for me:thumbup:

Don't think I would have ever bought Spyders if they wasn't offered in manual..I'm old school, don't trust automatics and the extra expense of buying & maintaining them..Haters don't attack me...it's just my opinion and mine only...:)

I don't see BRP dropping the manual transmission anytime soon. The main reason I think is because the manual and the semi-automatic share the same transmission, no different in any way that I know of. The semi has a hydraulic unit that rotates the shifter shaft instead of the lever that your foot does on the manual. The semi also has a centrifugal clutch the manual has hand operated clutch. It is just too easy to offer both.

Agreed 100%. Want only a manual and yes I am ole school!

I felt the same way when buying my GS but the tech guys at BRP kept telling me they liked the SE better because it was faster, I like faster! After a few years driving a SM only and then getting a chance to drive an SE I was hooked. The SE shifts faster than the SM ever could. My Boss Hoss was an auto and I loved it. I like them both but given the choice I'll take the SE every time. :doorag:

By the way I was "Old School" about carburetors too and I got over that. Never did like points and condensers. ;)

In my opinion, it's not a matter of trust, it's a matter of taste.

I like the control and enjoy shifting manually.

When I want to play on an automatic, I'll take out the Piaggio BV250 Tourer..........

You stll shift with the SE manually, you just don't pull in a lever to do it.
