• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sachs rear shock an upgrade?

I am not impressed with the dampening charictaristics of the OEM rear shock, and I am wondering if the Sachs shock from a 2013 ST would be an improvement? It hasting extra bit of travel, but if anyone has experience with the older and newer style shocks, let me know, thx.

it is also possible that my rear shock is shot, as it appears to have leaked a bunch, however, my time is valuable, and I am only interested in warrantying the OEM shock if it is decent when replaced.

Not sure..!!

But the RS and the ST do have different part numbers for the shock. The ST being a inbetween model it may be for a softer ryde. Now if yours leaked out you should check under warranty and see how a new one works for you. Otherwise it's shopping for the aftermarket shocks....pricey..considering stock is $89.00 and elkas are in the hundreds...

Do the later years have a preload adjustment?

I don't see on when I look at the parts fiche? It appears the preload in only adjustable in the front

I replaced by rear shock on my 2011 RS-S SE5 with an Elka. They make it to fix your style of riding and you can fine tune it, with mine I can fine tune the spring rate and dampening rate. It handles much, much nicer now. The BRP shock is a sub-standard shock, my rear only lasted 17,000 miles and the right front $6,500 miles , not many miles for a $20,000+ machine. That's IMHO.
