Ryker jumped into reverse at 60kph when it hit a pothole - What damage could have occurred?

How bad could this be?

Riding along in the city at 60kph, pot hole ahead, couldn’t avoid it. impact wasn’t bad, just a typical pot hole, but the bike shifted in to reverse, flashers went on and came to a abrupt stop.

When stopped I put the bike back into drive and pulled over, no abnormal noises and the bikes seems to drive ok, but I booted it back home as I was only a few blocks away, cut my ride for the day short.

Just did a physical once over to see if there is anything physical broken on the out side and nothing. Was about to go toodle around the neighborhood and listen and feel for any thing off.

Is this a thing, hitting a bump or pothole throws the transmission out of gear?

My warranty ran out on April 30, 32 hours ago lol!

What damage if any could have occurred? Stretched and scorched belts maybe, not even remotely educated on how the Ryker’s CVT works.

That is very strange.
Do you have a hand shifter on the Ryker or maybe your toe caught the shifter when you hit the pothole.
Around here potholes cause a lot of damage to vehicles.

I usually have my left foot away from the shift lever to prevent such a thing happening, but since this is only the third time out this year I cannot say for certain that I did not clip the shift lever with my foot when I hit the pothole and got jostled around. So it's a firm maybe.

I did just come back from a 30 mile ride, city streets, a little highway, other drivers are idiots btw. Got up to 125kph on the highway and did a bunch of slow manoeuvring etc. nothing abnormal to report.

So I will try to not let the RVI factor take over (Riders Vivid Imagination) and continue to monitor the bike.

While the gauge showed a Firm R for reverse and the flashers kicked in along with the beep, what’re the chances the bike actually was in Neutral and not fully in Reverse? Cause I think slamming the bike into reverse doing 60kph will certainly mess something up.

Agree N sounds more likely- too much involvement to R without complete stop. Please keep us updated.

I would guess that with all the electrickery going on with Spyders & Rykers that there may be some sort of speed or RPM related interlock that would prevent going straight from D->R.... maybe.
