• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ryker 900 first oil change: debris in filter housing

Just finished my first oil change on my 2021 900. Upon removal of the old filter, examination of the bottom of the housing revealed pieces of dark grey rubber-like material. I'm thinking maybe it's excess gasket-forming material (e.g., Permatex). I can confirm that it is NOT part of the old o-ring nor part of the seal on the bottom of the old filter. Should I panic? (The old o-ring is partially visible in the image, for scale).

Good reason to get that initial service out of the way. Not uncommon to find some industrial leftovers, and the earlier you catch any such suckage, the easier to limit any damage AND get it covered under warranty. Just got my 900 Ace back from the shop with a clean bill of health.

That said, I'd rather find something like that instead of metal shards, right?

I seriously doubt my dealer would take the time to inspect/clean the filter housing or check the old oil for debris. That's just me, though.

AIRBORNE!

If no debris came out the drain, then I would expect:
1. The oil filter caught the debris;
2. or most likely due to size, the debris originated in the oil filter housing and went no further

You may want to change oil and filter again shortly for peace of mind.
