Ryding and Golfing

We love Ryding but also golfing different courses. :riding:

My wife suggested that we combine them with a trailer for the Spyder that can haul the clubs to the course. :shemademe_smilie:

While viewing many of the threads here there is a lot of trailer talk but does anyone else use a trailer for golf clubs? I like the price on the Harbor Freight model but it is too short, the trailers from the web sponsor are great but is it hard to get clubs in and out? :banghead:

if you have experience with this, please let me know what pros and cons you have encountered and with what trailers.

We have carried our clubs in our RT-622 for golfing on trips. Works fine.

A friend of mine has a golf club carrier on his Spyder. It's mounted to the trailer hitch. Carries 2 bags and seems to work for him. Don't know where he got it.

Anything, and mean anything at all that you attach to the rear axel of any vehicle will bounce and vibrate do to the condition of the roadway. That's the reason for springs and shock absorbers. Comments from people who carry ice chests on the tongues of their trailers say avoid putting glass drink containers in the ice chest.

I took a long trip once and sent my clubs and other items by freight to save on expenses. I packed my clubs well but not well enough. They were in a hard plastic case fully covered and each club head was covered inside the case. However, the wedge head was not covered sufficiently and it wore through it's cover and cut a grove in the shaft of one of my drivers.

I'm looking to find a trailer with torsion axels appropriate to the trailer towing recommendations of BRP. Max tongue weight 40 lbs and max trailer weight 400 lbs. A small flatbed trailer with a long tongue and a car top cargo box like a Yakima box may be the ticket. Sears also has a nice car top cargo box. Yes, the Harbor Freight tag along bike trailer is too small. My clubs and bag are approx. 4' long. If I ever transport my clubs again in the vertical or horizontal position in or on something that vibrates, I will not only cover each club head with mega padding I'll also cover each shaft with a protective padding like K-Flex water pipe insulation. It maybe extreme but I love my clubs.

I have the 622 and 2 sets of clubs is no problem. It also takes the worry out of the 40lb tongue weight.

Golf and Spyder

I have tried the Seal arrangement, small torsion Piggy Packer trailer and a 622. Pros and cons, for me:

Seal: Cons: It bounces around a lot and seems more unstable at higher speeds.
I only carry one set of clubs and that seems to push the weight limit.
I am not a fan of the movement of the spline and some damage has happened to the back trunk with rubbing. Personal modification ( a suggestion from John) to the angle of the holder and spline. helped and I bought some pads to limit any further damage.
Security and issue of needing to stop to or from the course.
Bungie cords less than appealing visually for 30k ride.

Pros: Well made an convenient, just a few nuts and bolts. Easy back up.

Small Torsion Trailer: Cons: Harder to back up, park. Depending on size, one set of clubs

Pros: Much more stable ride at highway speeds.
Locks for security and weather issues.. More room for pull cart.
Unhook trailer and leave clubs in it( Garage)
Middle price point between Seal stand and 622.

622: Cons: Backing up, parking. Cost.

Pros: 2 sets of clubs, room for pull cart.
Bigger than small trailer. No issues with tongue weight. Leave the clubs in it and go riding without clubs.
Made for trailering behind Spyder. One key fits all.
Looks great.

My conclusion: Trailering is better and safer. No rattle, tongue weight issues. Storage for more than the bag. And more options for multiple uses.
