RTS/SE5 STALLING PROBLEM FIX (I HOPE)

I just returned from East Coast Cycle Center, where I bought my 2011 Spyder RTS/SE5. I reported to them that my new Spyder had stalled out on me three times in the past two days. I just purchased it on June 15,2011. The service department took a test ride and also put their computer on it to test for any codes that would be showing a problem. Everything checked out fine. We believe the problem came from fast hard braking as the engine downshifts coming to a light or stop. I believe that the transmision doesn't have enough time to downshift properly when there is a sudden hard stop. He also suggested that I downshift myself instead of letting the engine to it automatically. I drove 50 miles after the service check and the advice, and there was ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH STALLING. I want to thank the owner, Walt, for having such a great staff of sales people, parts people and a fantastic service department which is very thorough and very courteous. I will be shopping there and getting service as long as I have the CanAm RTS.

I was just at the dealer yesterday having the 6k service and the service manager asked me if I had any problems with stalling, erratic idling and such. He said that they have had 4 2011's with throttle body issues that exhibited that behavior. I have not had the stalling issue so off I went. May be something to check into.

making a noise when shifting and having trouble with the brakes making noise

Hi everyone I am new to spyderlovers.com. I was wondering if anyone is having trouble with their canam spyder rts making a noise when you take off shifting gears after you shift it stops . I am also having problems with the breaks screatching after you have driven it for a while and stop and get back on it. I have had it back to the dealers and the tech there said he has never heard that noise before and he was going to call the BRP tech and talk to them but he said that they will give me the run around because it is not interferring with the performance of the bike and the brake pads have to be replaced and I only have 700 miles on it . I got it april 29 2011,. He also said that canam won't pay for the brake pads which I think is wrong . The break pads are not even worn or anything they have a defect or something but he said canam won't amit it . My spyder is a semiautomatic . I love my spyder but I don't want to ride around with the noises I have on it and the screaching brakes. I feel that I have paid alot of money for this bike and that canam should stand behind their product. If anyone has any info please let me know.

If your Spyder ''Doesn't'' have the Gen.3 pad's they will cover it.
But still expect to get the normal run a round from BRP/ and or the dealer.:(

On another forum I've seen postings about this... There is SOMETHING going on for sure... :opps:

.....and it's not just limited to the 2011 models, either! Coming back from San Francisco weekend before last, after being on the "super-slab" for two-hour stretches, when I exited to get gas or eat, I played heck keeping the Spyder from just idling down to 0. Lately, the same thing is happening when I start it up....it refuses to continue running - idles down to 8-900 rpm and then dies! I'll be talking with SK Northwest this coming week.

Hard Brake Stalling

I have had the stalling on hard braking a couple of times on my 2011 SM5, too.

I have about 370 miles on my2011 RTS/SE5. I took it back to the dealer last week and he checked out the bike on their computer, looking for any defective codes to show up. None did. They also road tested it. He said they reset the computer on the bike and everything should be fine. Everything IS FINE NOW. We discussed the stalling problem and think it might come from hard braking at a light or intersection. The transmission doesn't get a chance to gear down properly. He suggested downshifting with the lever instead of having the machine do it all the time. I do that also now, and it seems to work perfectly. (Knock on Wood). East Coast Cycle Center in Bensalem, Pa. is the dealer where I purchased it last week. They have been very helpful with solving any problems I may have.

P.S. He did mention that if tach goes below 800, it will stall out. Mine idles between 1300/1400 RPM, which is where it is supposed to be.

I've actually had a stalling issue about a hand full of times. None of them were from hard breaking.

Twice after filling up it stalled while i was getting gear on, and once in a parking lot at very low speed it stalled. It starts right up, so i'm not to concerned. Will have to check the RPM;s when this happens.

thanks for the info neighbor.

after being in the shop for 2 weeks we picked the bike up today not fixed. Being told the problem is in the ECU sensor not properly regulating the fuel. There is supposed to be a software update out this coming week to solve the problem.

Same thing, my new Spyder stalls as well.

Just got my 2011 RTS last Sat and the baby stalls whenever I'm sitting at a stop light. It bounces around 1300-1400 RPMS for about 30 seconds, then dies. The Temp gauge is inop as well. In the shop today at Coleman PowerSports in Woodbrige VA. Hopefully, I'll get her back soon.:gaah:

I just had had the dealer look at mine and they found a loose ground cable at the battery post. I had stalling, rough running, limp mode, engine light, oil light and the sterior started playing all on its own when it was parked! lol... So far so good, I put another 150 miles on it after that and no problems.

Good luck,

Randy

I had that happen a few times during the first couple hundred miles. When I had them check it out, they told me they reprogrammed the computer in the Spyder. I haven't had the problem since. I also like to downshift manually. He said that helps also.

Hmmmmm

Mine isn't stalling, but I've noticed now that it stumbles a bit when it's cold. This is since I had the iridium plugs put in.

When I went back to the dealer a day or two after I purchased the 2011 Spyder RTS/SE5, he told me he reset something on the computer. Maybe it was an update. I have never had the problem since. Knock on Wood.

Stalling at lights

My problem seems to have been solved by the computer update that the dealer performed a day after I bought it. And yes, the idle does bounce between 1300-1400, but no stalling problem now.
