• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RTS Reverse Operation

When I shift into reverse gear and throttle up the gas, the engine rev's shurge up and down. It's like there is a limiter trying to cut the RPM. It keeps the RPM down low. I know this was not the same when I picked up the 2011 RTS. Any thoughts to my problem? Thanks Bob

Reverse speed

I have RT-S sm5 and it does have rev limiter in reverse not sure if u have sm5 or se5 but that is a safety feature...

I can understand the limiter but it pulses up and down. Can you tell me how high of RPM will the limiter start cutting back. This is rerally just like 2,000 ppm. thanks Bob I do have the SM5

I have a SE5 and I can goose the throttle in reverse and revs stays constant. If you put it in reverse and just idle does the revs still change or just when you give it some throttle? You may want to run it by your dealership and have them take a look at it. I don't think what your describing is normal.

I paid attention to my RT SM5 today when I backed up. In backing up, the RPM never even got to 2000...that was doing it as I always do. I did try after to rev it up passed 2000 and I was probably going over 10 mph at 2000. Not safe for me.

After all the posts about how much better it is to have 2 wheels up front, why are you trying to run these things like a conventional (and unstable!) Trike?? :roflblack::roflblack: :shemademe_smilie::gaah:

Bob, you might mention that a Gold Wing trike reverse runs off the starter as the two wheeler does...reverse is 1 mph...no throttle or engine power is used, just the starter button is used for reverse. My Wing is very stable. JMHO

:agree:My Polaris ATVs have a reverse limiter, with a limiter disable button,
When you hit that button you better hope nothing is behind you.:yikes:

I not sure but what I see with the RTS is that the first gear is very tall and you need rpm to get it to roll. It's not like a Harley tractor engine. When they used the gear for reverse they had to strech out the shift points and first gear is weak. I know you need rpm to get this rig to roll even in reverse. I feather the clutch with adequate revs to keep it from stalling. Now it just surges up and down even at low rpm. Not the same as when I picked it up a week and a half ago. Bob

I had a 350L many years ago that I once threw myself over the bars with... :yikes: The reverse override button is NOT to be trifled with!

Reverse sucks on a hill

On our 2011 RS I could go in reverse up a hill with no issues. A little feathering of the clutch and it was fine as long as I had a good surface and not gravel to back up on. I could back up a steep hill without problems.

Last weekend and again today, took our new 2012 RT-S in reverse and tried backing up a slight incline. The surging was so bad that no matter what I did with the clutch, it basically would not back up. It is interesting reading that a few others have this issue. Our Spyder just had the 600 mile service done with only a issue for a bad battery which was replaced at no charge.

I can see where this reverse is going to be an issue when we take our long trip and often have to backup into campgrounds that may not be level or the perfect surface. I have no problem with a rev limiter taking over as long as there is a little common sense for when it kicks in. This sucks on the RT.
