RT wouldn't stop despite braking & Kill Switch operation - any others?

Glad to hear she is going to be ok...i had this happen on a car..I had the cruise control on,and my brake switch was bad..When I went to stop,it wouldn't cancel the cruise..The harder I stepped on the brakes, the more the engine would rev to try to hold the speed my cruise was set at...Did she have the cruise on?

It makes me wonder if the rain may have gotten something wet that may have caused this to happen. Just a thought. I am really glad she is OK please keep us informed on your findings.

Hello everyone,
Yes God was with my wife and I am thankful she is here with me today. To update all, the can am roadster is at the shop was towed earlier today. Awaiting to hear what was the actual problem with the machine. When I started it today to move out of our garage the throttle was stuck. My wife agreed with one comment that the can am felt like it was in cruise control and every time she did hit the brake instead of slowing down it went faster. We now believe she hit the kill switch and brake at the same time which caused the spyder to flip her off and flip over her. Because of her quick thinking in a horrible and scary situation she prevented herself from hitting me and someone else. So now we are waiting for BRP to investigate and inform us of the results. I would like to thank you all for your concerns, suggestion and kind words. I will keep all inform of the final outcome.

Glad she's okay. Not that she was doing this.. but someone brought up cruise control...which is something you shouldn't use in the rain.

Kill switch should have cut engine..... key should be last resort.

Sounds like rear tire locked up and then she flipped.

Making me feel even better about having a manual clutch. Would be very rare to have both the kill switch and the clutch fail at the same time.

Sorry that you had this happen. Contact BRP and see what they have to say or do BEFORE you call a lawyer. Once the lawyers get involved nothing will happen, and no one will talk until a settlement is reached. Let the manufacturer have some time to make it better first.

Maybe I missed it; but, where was lawyer mentioned?

Never mind; I found it. I agree with you.

couldn't stand it, went out and ran mine a crossed my pasture at 50 mph and hit the kill switch and it died like it should. "cows went crazy" STAMPEDE":roflblack:
Glad my brakes worked...that fence was coming up fast...
Any way please keep us posted on this and your wife's recovery.
you realize the spyder is NOT an off road vehicle???:dontknow: But that had to be a rush!!!:roflblack:

I wouldn't let the dealer tuch it I would have someone not assocated with can-am check it out. jUST TO MAKE SURE you know the truth about what happen. just my opinon.

I'd do as the OP did; take it to the dealer who has contacts with BRP. There are to many electronics for just anyone to check it out that is not familiar. Why would the dealer/BRP cover up a safety issue that has now been brought to the attention of 100's if not 1000's of owners?

Glad the wife is Okay, along with many others saying the same thing. Using cruise control in the rain is not the best idea in the world ( I am a teen age driving instructor) for any vehicle.
The part that really gets to me is the kill switch. I thought that killed all electrical power to engine compents. Can anybody on here tell more about that?
PM or on here.

That's what the dealer/BRP will have to figure out. The kill switch is supposed to kill power to the engine; that's the way I always shut the spyder down and know the kill switch is working.

Today at about 40 MPH, Iinadvertently hit the kill switch. The spyder slowed a bit and when I realized what had happened, I hit the switch again and the engine started. There was no jerk no leach nothing except power. I did not notice a computer reboot or anything else. I think I would have noticed a reboot of the gauged did their normal thing.

That being said the it is awfully easy to inadvertently hit that switch on or off. Other kill switches that I am familiar with take a bit more positive action to activate. It is possible that, in panic mode, that the kill switch was pushed off and on again.
