There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RT with shorty windscreen?

Stony

New member
Hoping someone here has tried these options. I have an 2012 RT limited... mainly ridden by my wife who is 5' 3". She really wants a lower windshield to have higher air flow during the summer months. I can find 2 viable options:

1) The Can-Am OEM low windshield. I think this is around 16" in height

2) California Scientific Shorts @ 18" in height

Looking to hear any qualitative statements if you have either of these. How's the air flow, any buffeting?, material quality, etc Please include your height :)

Have you thought about cutting down the stock one? It's easy to do and you can cut it to whatever height works best. All you need is some masking tape, a jig saw and sand paper.

A lot of people have cut their stock shield down. I bought a shorty shield from a member who wanted to sell his. $80 delivered. I love it during the warmer months, and have not taken it off yet. I think it looks better than the stock shield, as do most of my ridin buddies. Check the link below and see what Blacklightning has to say about cutting them down. Check the WTB and Sell page because sometimes people post their shorty shields for sale on that page.

I use one of the OEM shorty windshields and I love it. I bought mine used . I still have my factory windshield for colder weather later on.

I believe that the stock 25" windshield is a bit wider, than the shorty. (Not certain about Cal-Sci's offering).
If you cut it down; you can (of course) set the height where you want it, and still retain the width that keeps the wind off of your shoulders...

I have the Cal Sci tinted shorty and love it. I don't even think I'll be changing it out (back to stock)for the winter.
I'm taller than your wife (at 5' 11") and the shield raises enough to give me more than adequate protection.

Here is a photo of my cut stock shield (that I tinted with spray on tint), and a photo of the one that I use now. Cutting the stock down to the height that you want it is a very simple task.

Blacklightening that looks quite nice. And thanks for the advice from everyone. Seems cutting it down is more common than I thought. I'd like to keep the stock windshield for colder months but like some have mentioned, I may never go back to it. I'll probably give the Calisi shield a shot. It's a bit cheaper than the Can-am SS shorty.

I just noticed that you are in Raleigh. If you would like to try out my cut shield, just shoot me a pm and come by. We can put it on in a couple of minutes for you to try.

My 2015 RT-S SE came with the shorty windshield. It is about 2" narrower on each side and much shorter than the normal stock shield. There is much more air-flow and in a hot environment, which I assume that you are in, it will be much cooler. Here, which is NOT a hot environment I found that the shield would direct the wind right into the end of my jacket. When it was raining I would be soaked.

F4 Short shield

F4 offered a 21" short shield both in standard width and 2 1/2" wider per side. These come in tint or clear and with r without a vent.

Shortie windshield

I have a 2015 RTS SS with the shortie windshield. Good air flow but the down side is a lot of wind noise and buffeting. I put on a F4 windshield with a vent and my wife and I have been much happier with less noise and buffeting. In all honesty when its in the high 90's in South Carolina it does not make much difference one way or the other its just hot.
