RT Trunk lid handle

Anyone have a suggestion for a handle for the RT trunk lid? I'd like to put one on mine so I don't scratch the surface getting my fingers under the edge of the lid to open it. I don't find anything listed at various accessory web sites.

Alternatively, has anyone installed a spring of some sort to pop the lid open a half inch or so?

don't think anyone makes one. We have a ryder that put some kitchen cabinet hardwear on side and trunk. I would suggest a nylon strap velcroed to the lid and overhangs. just a sample but you can see the idea...:thumbup:

If you could mount a couple of springs under the lip somehow... :dontknow:
Or maybe up near the hinges?? A shorter, stiffer spring might be needed up there!

Thanks. I looked at it but there are a couple of problems with it; it's big and awfully pricey, $99.99.

Correct. So used to using trunk & frunk didn't think to be specific.

The Luggage rack works great for that purpose and you can carry more stuff. just put one on mine and I use it to open the trunk all the time. I will say that it is a little harder to clean under it now, but the extra luggage space is worth it. :yes:

Got it solved, I think!

Unless something unforeseen happens to mess up my fix, I have the trunk lid situation taken care of. The solution is simple. Figuring it out wasn't!

This is the extension spring I bought from the local True Value hardware store.




Here is where I mounted it. Had to drill a small hole in each of the latch brackets on the lid. There's a surprisingly large amount of space under the lid in the latch area.





This is a 3/4" high wood block that the spring pushes against when the lid i closed. I have to push the lid to latch it. No more gentle slamming as it just bounces back.




When I unlatch the trunk lid it pops up enough to get my finger under the lip without scratching the tupperware.

RT Trunk Lid Spring

I just finished installing the "trunk lid spring" that WasWinger came up with back in June and I think it's gonna work great. In my junk boxes I found a spring that worked and a 5/8"x5/8"x1 1/4" piece of hard black rubber that I've held in place with 3M double faced tape. So far so good. Thanks for the idea and pictures.
