There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RT staring issue!

RT starting issue!

Went out on a ride today, first one in 2 weeks. When I first turned the key, the RT kept cranking but wouldn't start, did this a couple of times, then I decided to crank the throttle while pressing the starter. Finally took some gas and started!:yes:It is a 2012 RT and only 4 mths old. Usually turns over on the first push of the starter (no turn on the throttle)and started normally the whole time riding today after the initial problem. Seemed like it wasn't taking gas this morning, until I turned the throttle. Any ideas? Or is this normal after sitting for that amount of time?:dontknow:. Thanks for any responses.

Ryde daily or keep the Spyder on a battery tender is our suggestion

Many have reported similar after a :spyder: sits without being ridden for a while and isn't on a battery tender. I'd suggest always putting the :spyder:on a tender if your not going to be riding for more than a couple of days. There were some threads about some of the RTs radios causing a parrasitic drain on the battery, but if it were ridden every day, the symptons wouldn't really show. Not til not ridden for a few days, then they'd report similar issues as yours or a totally dead battery. Hope this helps ;) & good luck:thumbup:

Thanks Dave, didn't seem like it was lacking power as much as gas,as it was cranking fast, but I do have a tender and probably would be a good idea to put it on when It is sitting for a while. Usually sits a couple of days to a week between rides and has never happened before?:dontknow:

That sounds like a good place to start. When mine does not want to start right away I advance the throttle about an eighth inch or so.

I just had the exact same thing happen to my 2011 RT the other day. Mine was on a tender not a power issue at all spining over great just like there was no fuel. It too was fine the rest of the day. Really strange.

Awww,...this was disappointing,...

When I read the title, I thought this was going to about people staring at the bike as you drove by and walking into stuff,...like phone poles, mailboxes, glass doors, other people, etc,...

maybe next time.

Sounds like throttle body may be sticking a little. I haven't had that problem on my 2012 RTS. Drove it yesterday for the first time in two weeks and it started right up. I don't keep either one of ours on a tender. Might want to check and make sure the throttle body update has been done. Also, I do put StarTron in ours.

My bad! :banghead: Wrote this late last night and was not thinking straight! It is now corrected, thanks for catching that, and thanks for everyone's responses.

Ahh.. we only had a little fun with it!
The problem with those titles, is that I've never found a way to fix an error that's up there! :opps:
(I've made far more than my fair share!)

You are right Bob, I was able to change it in my Original post, but that did not change the thread title!:gaah:

me too..:roflblack::roflblack:

A friend of mine has a RT and last year he complained about what sounds like the same thing. After failing to start, he would take the key out and wait a minute and it would start right up. Later in the day I watched him start his Spyder and caught him twisting the throttle right after turning the key on, during initialization. I told him this may be the cause of his starting problem. I have not heard him complain about starting issues since.

Thanks for the reply. I have never had to touch the throttle until yesterday when starting, just push the starter and away she went. I will see what happens today!

Maybe you DO need to stare at it just a little to get it ready to start! :roflblack:
I'm sorry! It just slipped out!
