RT-S Suspension Adjustment

Orbital Blue RT-SE5
Hello,

I put in an order for a Blue RT-SE5 with trailer.

I Test rode the dealer RT-S I really like it for the most part, Except, I did not like the top heavy rolling feeling that I got while riding it.

I noticed that when I crank the rear suspension as hard as it would go it seemed better and did not titter back and fourth as much, but still felt like the old top heavy mini van that did not have sway bars, as I thought it had way too much body roll

My concerns are that this can not be dialed out of this machine, the suspension seemed to soft in the front.

The dealer had the RT-S front suspension in the #1 softest setting.

Has anyone else adjusted the front suspension to get rid of this feeling and if so, what did it do to the ride?

I saw the Ken Miller video where a female RT owner adjusts her front suspension to #4 position.

I was hoping for the results of the suspension adjustment but nothing yet.

When I test rode the RS Spyder it also was on the lightest front suspension setting also, but it was by far much better handling and I had no concerns with the RS's handling, it was awesome and how I expected the RT-S to be.

At this point I am a little disappointed

Thanks

what is your body weight and are you freeway or curving roads ryding?

Factory setting on the 2 RTs that I have had was 3.

I set my RT to 5 for in the mountain roads and did fine but I did not like the freeway ride on the 5 setting, since i ryde more freeway I have reset the front to 4 and the rear I raised the psi from 55 to 75 psi (with 90 psi max.)and then on the screen set the setting on bar 2 from the bottom.

This allows me to have the freeway ryde I want and the ability to stiffen the rear for when load is added.

For all but the very lightest riders, a setting of 1 on the front preload is too little. The factory setting is usually 3. One other thing that seems to be forgotten with the RT. Raising the front tire pressure a bit helps tremendously. I recommend 18-20 PSI. On our GS/RS I run 20 front and 30 rear. I did the same on the RT-S, but I have had little chance to road test.

RT-S Suspension

Hello Ken,

I am about 180-Lbs wife is about 110-Lbs.

I had no extra weight in the Spyder, and I was Not pulling a trailer.

I did put a trailer on order with the RT-S.

Thanks

Hello WestGL welcome
If you are going to ryde 2 up with trailer at 290 lbs with trailer I would do the following:
Set front to 5 – max. Stiffness
Rear suspension add air to 80 - 85 psi ( max 90 psi allowed)
Set the screen rear reading to 4 bars and then adjust from there for comfort as needed.

If you are going to ryde 2 up with no trailer at 290 lbs I would do the following:
Set front to 5 – max. Stiffness
Rear suspension add air to 75 - 80 psi
Set the screen rear reading to 3 bars and then adjust from there for comfort as needed.

If you are going to ryde solo with trailer at 180 lbs with trailer I would do the following:
Set front to 4
Rear suspension add air to 70 - 75 psi
Set the screen rear reading to 3 bars and then adjust from there for comfort as needed.

If you are going to ryde solo with no trailer at 180 lbs I would do the following:
Set front to 4
Rear suspension add air to 70 - 75 psi
Set the screen rear reading to 2 bars and then adjust from there for comfort as needed.

These are the starting points that I believe will get you close to your final comfort settings for mostly freeway ryding.

Now if you are mostly ryding winding or mountain roads set the front to 5 and leave it there for all the above settings then adjust from there.

Hope this helps you enjoy your RT-S :2thumbs:
Ken :ohyea:

The 2 up with no trailer at 290 lbs recommendation sounds about right for my circumstances. I'll try it and let you know how it works. Thanks Ken.

Does anyone disagree with this?
