RT-S handling

I don't know about Elka "RT-S" specific. I spoke with Elka, and then bought their shocks for my RT and the difference is massive.

If you can afford them, it'll make all the difference in the world.

I just got back from a 50 mile ride. The wind was blowing 20 to 30 mph and really affected the handling, especialy in a crosswind. I had a 23 or 25" Cee Williams windshield on my GS and 4" risers, so my riding posture on both bikes would be very similar. Today the RT was a lot "twitchier" on the ride than my GS ever was. I realize there is more "tupperware" on the RT that could be affected by the wind, but could not believe the differance between the two. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this noticeable difference between the two?
yes, the RS cuts the wind much better

I noticed that when I took my test rides, but I chose the RT anyway.

I'll try increasing the air pressure in the front tires a little more, maybe up to 22 lbs.

My last bike was a Honda ST110. I had a big rifle fairing on it and it would drift in the wind also.

This being my first Spyder, I've already adapted to the buffeting caused by the cross winds. Not having owned or ridden an RS to compare my RT to is a plus in this case. If it's windy now, I expect it and it doesn't bother me at all anymore. Ignorance is bliss!!!!!:roflblack:

:agree:

and as an additional comment, I have not yet been 2 up, but today went on a group ride through the twisties with a wind
advisory in effect, and although I was not experienced as much as the other riders on the RS, the bike performed as I
expected, and I took turns at all the posted speeds and then some, I too am 220 lbs and my bitch is just 5 1/2 lbs, ok my
female dog for those that don't understand what the word bitch really means

I have no prior motorcycle experience so my experience and expectation will be more similar to a car.

the OP asked for those who would like to improve the handling, but I think with this new animal it will be just experience in the
seat, I for one think BRP got it right for a touring machine, and if you arrive before me at the destination, Bravo, you da man / woman

If we are talking about a rally where there is a big enough prize, then by all means let the improvements begin.:firstplace:

no disrespect to others opinions. just my early take on 1800 miles :)

RTS handling

Thanks for the replies to my question. It was still a good ride, just not as relaxing. I probably should have kept the RS for windy days.:roflblack:

Subject: Swaybar for CanAm Spyder

I have a 2010 RT-SE5,

Will the RS Swaybar on your web site fit my RT-SE5.

If not, when do you expect to have the Adjustable swaybays for the RT-S model?

Westgl

Thanks Westgl,

That's the information I've been hoping for! I need to add them to my favorites so I can keep on checking to see when it's available.

Thanks again

Handling

We just returned from The Twisted Sisters in west Texas I was impressed with the speeds my wife kept through the corners, she is light and with front shocks on stiffest setting and 20-21psi. in front tiers she drove away from several groups of Ultras and had them scratching their heads, she has 95000mi. on two Goldwing Trikes and says this is different , setup early shift weight, I have taught her to primarily do this with shifting weight on her feet and drive through the curves as you would in a sports car for example ,she is quite impressive to follow and at 7000mi. is still really getting the feel for it , by the end of the summer she will hurt alot more riders feelings as she did this weekend.

When I took my test drive on the RT it was a windy day (30 mph gusts) and when I pulled out on I-40 to see how it ran at highway speeds; The thing got real scary, didn't handle well in the wind at all. I also noticed the lack of power (as compared to my 09 GS). The RT was very comfortable to set on and all the goodies are nice but the thing just doesn't handle well and feels underpowered from what I am used to riding.
I felt a sense of relief when I finally got it back to the dealer and got back on my GS.nojoke This ride happened some time ago, just decided not to express my opinion at that time, knowing that I wasn't going to buy one, but I see others have noticed the same .

Handling

New back tire [Nitto N450} helped, from following her , closer than I will deem safe, on my Venture, I feel when we take off the front tires in favor of an auto tire as I did on back the stiffer sidewalls will eliminate the rest of the squirm under the wheels, Apply weight to inside foot, accelerate through curves smoothly as driving a Porche, wife can drive away from many two wheelers in curves, alot is experience, alot is confidence, go to parking lot , pick apex and test your bike and yourself, turning and braking, shew has yet to find the limits , she did find them on Goldwing Trikes she used to have, VSS is confidence building but you have to prove to yourself that it will work.

What a great savings!!! :2thumbs:

Swaybar adjustment

If you have the RT-S you have a swaybar on the front.

Has anyone researched into, different Swaybar bushings, I dont know what the stock bushings are made of, if rubber a harder material to remove the flex (I did this on a Miata made a big difference) would help, maybe check difference between RT and RS or aftermarket or different end links, or some way to increase swaybar function.

If so Please post

Thanks

Westgl

Nitto

When I got the Nitto in first thing i noticed was awesome tread, then the Yellow Balance dot I am accustomed to on motorcycle tires, we changed it at home, checked balance manually, checked fine , I did nothing and she has had to 100mph. smooth as silk, seems like a quality tire , 45000mi. tread sounds good too.

Nitto

Syclemom

So what you are saying is you changed tires to a Nitto brand?

Is that right?

If that is correct, do you have a part number for the tire?

I have been looking at a Sumitomo tire that is suppose to be really good when it comes to Hydroplaning.

I have thing about changing tires and trying that next.

Nitto

Its the Nitto N450 Extreme Performance Tire, I got it from onlinetires.com, she has already been in rain tire performed great, running at 18psi. so will not eat the center as factory tire did at 7000mi. , her trikes over the years always ran in the 16-18psi. for good wear, hope this helps tire is about $90 to your door
