RT-S gas milage

What kind of gas milage are you getting on the RT-S, for the lucky ones that have them already. Just curious. I got to wait until end of April early May.

I ran mine about 470 miles the weekend before last. Had a combination of back roads (lot's of stops/starts & runs through small towns) & interstate (75-78 mph), generally running about 5-8 above posted speed limits. That put me between 60 & 78 normally. I averaged 23 mpg on the back roads & 25 mpg on the interstate, & used 3 tanks of fuel - 91 octane.

I was riding by myself, although I am a big man. Had a sleeping bag in the back seat to lean against, which I found to be much more comfortable. Have always had driver's backrests since 1991. Windshield in the full-up position.

Gas milage

Thanks all of you for the quick responses. I thought it was around those numbers. I'm curious about, what octane to run. If you use 87 and something happens to the bike does that void the warranty? Or can you use any octane.

The owner's manual says min. 89 octane but would like you to use 91 oct.

I have been using 89 oct. most of the time while I am in Calif. , when I go east the prices get cheaper so I start using 91 as suggested.

I'm averaging just over 30 mpg and I don't have a light foot!

me too, i only have 310 miles so far, but I got 31.56 mpg

don't tell anyone, but if i only got 10 mpg or 100 mpg I wouldn't ride it more or less :p the experience is priceless:firstplace:

Mileage

My wifes first 1000 mi. were terrible in my opinion, 25-26mpg, this may be normal but I think 998cc with 100 hp. should be capable of better than this, now at 3700mi. [she got hers Jan.5] her last couple of tanks were 30.6 she is not an aggressive rider but by no means a tenderfoot, her 2007 1800 Wing Champion Trike would get 34 everyday including pulling the camper, maybe this is normal mpg but in my opinion Can Am [Rotax] should address this a touring bike should get better than this given the engine size, I am a 33,000mi. a yr. rider and in many years many brands except never owned[or ever will] a Harley I have never had a bike with this kind of mileage, my wife loves it no matter if it was 15mpg. so i just keep buying gas, my Venture gets 42mpg 24/7 36mpg pulling our Bunkhouse camper, Bombardier should possibly consider a multiple cyl. engine for the Spyder RTS I think this would be an improvement, the platform is great, this was all 89 oct.

This motor in the Aprilia (more HP by the way) routinely gets mid fourties under normal riding so Rotax made an efficient motor, but This motor also turns a fairly high rpm to put it in the sweet spot for torque. More importantly everyone forgets the 2 front wheels. As aerodynamic as the Spyder looks , its pushing alot of wind and 2 wheels. The rolling resistance (scrub) is infinitely higher on a reverse trike. This cannot be duplicated by just rolling it down your driveway. In driving situations , as the suspension loads and unloads and there are constant changes in steering , even though total toe in is set close to zero , the camber/caster fluctuate mildly , changing the drag characteristics of the front end continuously. Given the fact that this motor is asked to do alot considering weight , wind resistance and drag , Anything above 30 mpg is great in my book.

Gas Milage for first 300 miles

I' am getting 23-mpg with the Spyder.

My 6cyl 1800cc Goldwing gets over 40mpg 118-h.p. & 120 lb/ft of torque.

I have a twin cyl. DOHC 4-valves per cyl. Suzuki 650 that is fast it gets 50-mpg.

My Toyota Venza AWD SUV V6 0-60 in 6.5sec. it gets 25mpg & seats 5
My Toyota Yaris gets 35mpg driven hard

My Dodge Durango gets 10 mpg city :D

I don't have a clue what my RT-S gets for gas mileage. Know what? I could care less! What is the big deal about gas mileage? If you really care about gas mileage why did you spend a great deal of money on the RT-S? I seriously doubt it's gonna get any better. I'm sorry if it's not what you expected but if gas mileage was a priority why do you own one?

Ok, I know not everyone is complaining about their mileage and probably most of you don't really care. On every motorcycle forum I've ever visited there is always a thread on gas mileage. None of us has to own a motorcycle, so why do we complain about mileage. Much more important to me is how far I can go before I need to fill up. With the missus on the back a stop about every 100 to 125 miles is normal. If she's not with me I will push it a little farther. I will also buy premium fuel if it is available, doesn't matter to me if it costs a little more. Sometime when you're on a long trip keep track of the total cost of fuel, you will be amazed how little it is compared to your other expenses.

Ok, enough ranting! If I've offended you, my apoligies. I guess I just need to quit reading threads on gas mileage!!

I have no trust in the new gas guage, so I would like to know the approx that people are getting. On my last 2 fill-ups, the guage was on the red line but the Spyder only took 4 gallons, and that was at 125 miles, pulling the trailer. Now if I could get my Expedition to do this well......

I'm getting 27 in town and 30 hwy and my Spyder is acting up right now. I'm leaning towards a fouled plug. She's going to be serviced to find the problem the week after Daytona Bike Week. I try not to miss Bike Week. I thought I read somewhere, when you hit the red line, you have 7/10ths of a gallon of gas left until empty?!?!

gas

My wifes #186 hits empty almost exactly a 4.5 gallons everytime, assuming it was completely full you should have 1.6 gallons, you know what happens when we assume? She has 3700mi. it is consistent so far we figure at empty 1 gal. safely most we have put in was 5.5 at 161 mi. by book still had .9 gal. but we wont test that we stop by 160 mi., I posted earlier our dealer replaced the pump, float assembly to try to correct the bouncy guage did not help but previous assembly gave same levels etc. hope this helps.

I've found that I usually put 5 gallons when I think that I'm empty and fill up. I've been getting close to 31 MPG.

Gas Mileage

I predict gas prices to hit over $3.00 a gallon by summer.

Probably closer to $3.25-3.45/gal.

I am hoping that my Spyder will get the 30-Mpg that most other people are getting after it is broken in.

It only has 300 Miles on it right now. That is probably the reason for the 23mpg.

30mpg would yield me another (almost) 50 miles per tank before fill up.
