There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RT Reveiw After Magee Valley

Wanted to post this thread after the rally trip, the RT is the second Spyder I've owned. Origianlly purchased a RS in 2008, but traded it in on the RT in 2010. The rally was really the first chance I've had to stretch her legs on a long trip. This is just my opinion, but am curious to hear from other RT owners as well.

First, the more I ride the RT the more I am impressed with this machine. No it isn't as fast off the line as the RS, but there were a number of times I stepped on it to keep up with my riding companion or to merge into traffic. In 4th gear it will get up and go, not bad for a big touring machine. The handling is so much easier and less fatiguing then the RS, again just MHO. Was very impressed with how it handled the steep twisties. In 2nd gear it walked right up the steep mountain roads like no bodies business. I was teasing my riding companion (on his new Sreet Glide) that he was really slow going up hill. I felt as though I could have rode the uphill twisties much more agressively than I did. Out on the open road it is really comfortable. The foot pegs I added to the lower air cowls really made for a nice place to stretch out the legs, my leegs don't get nearly as cramped and tired on the RT as the RS. The adjustable windsheild was great at keeping the rain off of me most of the time. However, the stock seat has to go, after a few hours my butt hurt. Had a chance to check out Lamonts corbin seat at Deal's Gap (thanks again Lamont) ordered a Corbin as soon as I got home. Lastly, I simply can't think of anything else I'd rather be on in the pouring rain. We got stuck in Smokey Mountains National Park Saturday afternoon in the downpour. Boy I was glad to be on the Spyder on those mountain roads in that kind of weather. After spending this much on a touring machine, I have no regrets with my purchase, I wish it got better gas mileage, but I knew that going in and still have no regrets.:2thumbs:

I find the RT a dog of the line but once you get her rolling it will keep up with an RS . My RS had a little more zip but it also had the race air filter, juice box, O2 modifier and Hindle .

JMCBOW, I agree with your assessment of the RT. We have a 2010 RTS PE00069. We ryde 2 up most of the time. Some other observation is that the stock seat doesn't bother me at all. I use bead riders and I always feel comfortable. We traveled over 2100 miles on the trip to MV and back home in Florida and never felt uneasy with the handling characteristics. We also pull a RT622 trailer, and I have to say this is without a doubt, the best towing trailer around. We were with 4 other Spyders (one RS other all RTs) and we went through a good many twisties on the way up to Maggie Valley and you didn't even know the trailer was behind. You actually have to check periodically to make sure its still behind. It does obviously put more of a strain and you have to shift differently(keep up the rpm's) but other than that it is a great trailer.
:ohyea::ohyea:

You folks do not say what transmission you have (SM5/SE5) in your signature, but I was riding with a couple of Spyders and one with a SE5 would wind the rpms up to 6-7,000 or so, take off and "paddle" through the gears without letting off the rpms....he would MOVE OUT!!

I personally believe this is Spyder abuse, but he sure could keep up with most...

:spyder2:

I am riding an SM5, I agree, I can't bring myself to ride my Spdyer that hard, took me awhile to get used to the higher RPM's when shifting.

Maggie Valley trip

We rode our RT-S from Broken Arrow, OK (near Tulsa), pulled the matching trailer, and it ran like a champ. Got 27 MPH with a loaded trailer and was happy with that. Was quick in the mountains and fast on the interstate. Everyone wanted to talk about it during stops. Could not be more pleased.

I cannot speak for the SM5 on the RTS 2010--I have the SE5.

Your review is pretty much what I would say about mine. Have 17,000 miles on it since last March. (riding season here for me--March-October)--when the snow and ice is off the roads.

Great for long trips--with all the comfort features. Not as snappy as the GS/RS models--but I did not buy the RTS for that reason. With a bad back--the RTS works best for me.

I also bought a Corbin seat after 500 miles of using the stock seat with Utopia backrest. The stock seat just seemed to soft for me and I experienced sore butt syndrome.

I bought RTS after 22,000 miles on a 2008 GS--SM5. I had everything on it for touring--fairing, trunk, bags, Corbin seat, risers, mirror extenders, all the lights I coul find--etc. I did not miss the SM5 when I got the SE5. I still own a two wheeler so I can get in some manual transmission whenever I want.
IMO--compared to the RS, I like the RTS SE5 better for touring.
