• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT questions by new guy

Just sold my Goldwing trike and am pumped to be able to buy a 2010 to 2012 Can-Am RT (budget budget). Couple quick questions:

Are there passenger / driver floorboards available?

Is wind buffeting an issue for the passenger and if so, what are the options other than a tall shield?

Is there a way to make the passenger backrest pad less upright?

What is the average rear tire mileage and is there a preferred tire to use?

Are there passenger / driver floorboards available? YES from several vendors, I personally like Seal Floorboards (i had the pups)

Is wind buffeting an issue for the passenger and if so, what are the options other than a tall shield? If the passenger is taller in the saddle there will be some buffeting I know of no Solution

Is there a way to make the passenger backrest pad less upright? Not that i am aware of short of some custom job

What is the average rear tire mileage and is there a preferred tire to use?

Floorboards are standard with the RTS and the Limited. Aftermarket boards are available. Seal floorboards can be found on the home page. The passenger back rest is not adjustable. Wind buffeting is maybe the same as any motorcycle. A larger windscreen may lessen wind buffeting.

I just sold my GL1500 trike... almost no buffeting on passenger or driver. GL1800 bwhahahaha the wind will pull the passenger's head off behind a stock shield. Options: Tall shield, shield with lip like the one I had from Firecreek, Baker mirror wings, KuryAkyn Airfoil (plexiglass that goes BEHIND passenger backrest)... First ride on a GL1800 with the missus and I mistook her for a bobblehead. Oh yeah, passenger needs a Real snug helmet.

Ultimate makes a passenger backrest that is a bit more "scooped-out". I don't know if it's less upright, but you might want to call them and see what they can brew up...

Floorboards are only standard from 2013 forward not on 2010 to 2012... There are multiple floorboard options from different vendors ranging from $100 to $600 depending on how elegant you go

Passenger backrest not adjustable but sometimes a small back cushion can alter the fit. big bucks will get your an Ultimate or Corbin seat custom fitted to both your bodies

My wife hasn't noticed any particular buffeting as a passenger on our 2010 , 2012 or 2014 RT s but some folks still like the taller & wider windshield from F4 for even greater protection for both driver and passenger

the Kumho Ecsta ACT tire is the most common car tire replacement for rear tire. It can be purchased online for about $80 and the three I have had all last 30000 miles compared to approx 10000 for the 159 dollar OEM tire

:agree: with Doc about the Kumho... :2thumbs:
I had ISCI floorboards on my 2010 RT... They have 4 different heights at which you can mount them, and you can also change the angle at with they mount...'

Questions

Check out web boards , love'em

with the ultimate seat the passenger backrest is slightly different than stock or you can have the inside foam custom cut

I found that the vented windshield helps, also the cal si wind shield with the cutout works also:2thumbs:

We have a 2011 & 2012 RTS's & we decided to go with Diamond-R Floorboards. Can't say enough about them! They're great & offer Multiple foot positions!!

Seal Floorboards are my choice. Had deluxe on my 2010 and have Pups on my 2011.

Tires: I usually get about 15K on my pre-2014 RT's. Just replaced the rear tire on the 2011. 16.5K miles. I use OEM tires.

Can't help with the backrest question.

I sold my GL1800 trike in March. During my research period I test rode a '12-998 and a '14-1330. Needless to say, I felt the 1330 was closer to the Wing from a motor performance standpoint. I picked up my '15 RT Limited 10 days ago. I get the idea that there are a large group of ex-goldwingers on this forum.

As far as tires many on here use car tires for the extra mileage and cost of the change. We got 9,000 out of the OEM tire and 11,000 so far on a Michelin. Good luck on your purchase.

Dont see need for them ourselves but Baker Wings makes enough stuff to shield you big time

Or divert tons of air on you when hot

Adjustable side panels is what i would call them
