RT pulling to the right

My 2105 RT-S has a pull to the right. Both tires are the exact pressure, had laser alignment done. Do I have a bad tire? Do I attempt to compensate with slightly higher tire pressure on the right?

Your thoughts appreciated.

Thanks....

RT PULL

OK, don't do the Band-Aid thing ..... drive about a mile slow to a stop ( try not to use the brakes ) and touch the front rotors .... be very careful one may be very very hot ...if this is the case ....that side may be dragging for some reason ........ good luck,,,, Mike

Along with what Mike is saying, you may have a bad pair of tires. Check out your rotors like Mike as suggested. If they are equally warm/hot. Check your tires and how many balancing weights they have. I had the same situation and at 400 miles got a new pair of tires. Just so you know, my second pair only lasted 10,500 miles. After a 2300 mile ride in seven days, the morning after I got home both front tires were flat.

Wise counsel on discerning the problem for pulling to the right. But yikes!! I don't understand that low millage on Kingfish's front tires. I am still riding on my original front tires (2014 RT) ...about to turn 23,000 miles on them. I will probably change them soon, but could probably get another 1,000 on them. Now the rear tire is another story...I'm almost ready for the 3rd rear tire. Hope you discover what's making it pull and may it be a quick easy fix. But you should getting 20,000 + miles on front.

When I took my tires off, both had a ton of stress cracks. Almost looked like tires that had sat outside for ten years. I had been up into Western Nebraska and Southwest South Dakota. There are plenty of roads to really hammer your tires. I also hardly ever take the interstate. If a town has brick streets, I am all over it. I have almost worn out my bumpskid. I have my third pair of front tires and have a lazer alignment. If they last 15k I will probably throw a party. One lesson I have learned, at my age I need stop riding like I stole it and acting like I own it. I can only hope my front tires last 20k.

My 2014 RTL was doing the same thing until I aligned the rear tire so the belt wasn't rubbing the flange of the sprocket.

I agree with the rotor check and avoid band-aid recommendations. You've a new vehicle under warranty. Demand the dealer fix what may be a POS tire problem.

Prolly Defective Tires

You probably have defective tires, this problem has been reported by a few folks here. My wife's 2014 RTL had the same problem, even after a laser alignment. The moment you let go of the handlebars they will consistently move about 1/4" to 1/2", to the right in our case. We bought the Spyder at the start of winter so it didn't get ridden much for a few months and by the time we convinced ourselves there was an actual problem it was time for the first service. The dealer temporarily swapped the front tires, the standard test for this, and the pull moved to the left. BRP would not warranty it claiming it was past the 90 day tire warranty, even though this is a known factory defect that does not always show up right away. Shame on them! Shame on them!

I put some real tires on the front and the problem went away and the Spyder now rides like a dream! I can't believe how much the overall ryde has improved. I'm looking forward to when the tires wear out on my 2013 RS so I can put some real tires on it!

Here is a video I made comparing my silver RS with her cognac RTL over the same course - blow up the video to full screen (click YouTube) so you can see the handlebars better:

Good luck with your problem, I hope you can get it resolved.

Hi Johnny,

Have the dealer check the steering sensor to be sure it is centered. If not it will pull no matter what you do. Mine came from the factory a bit off...

How did you guys fare out from the rains?

JT

Thanks for the info.....I will have it checked.

I did not get any flooding but just a few miles from me friends/family's houses took on water and lost everything. These houses were not built in flood plains, nor near rivers ( 2-3 miles from the nearest stream /creek/ river). Still have a hard time wrapping my head around the amount of rain that fell that caused the flooding.

RIGHT PULL

Johnny --- How long has this been going on ???? ....how many miles do you have ????.... give us as much info as you can think of ........Mike

Bought the bike new in Jan 2016. When I first got the bike I thought I noticed a pull to the right. But new bike and thought I should get use to the bike before deciding there was a problem. Once I decided it was a problem as one of the other members indicated, it was not covered under warranty. That was my fault. When I had my 2011, it also pull to the right but after getting it laser aligned, the pull went away. I hoped that would be case with the 2015 but it was not.

It has 5,900 miles on it. I did not get home from work earlier enough to check to see if the breaks were dragging on the right side....hope to do that soon.

I don't mind putting new tires on it, just hate that I have to go through the effort to find new tires and find a place that will mount them.

Continental ContiEcoContact EP 175/55R15, the only thing I could find locally that would fit. Got them from Manny, Moe and Jack. I removed the wheels and took them in and when he said "what vehicle" I told him it was for a 1962 MGB replica kit car, not a real MGB but a fake copy and told him you might just want to put "other" in the system. He said "OK, I got it".

I told them to just mount the new tires and not to balance as I put Ride-On in. I only rode her Spyder about 10 miles and after the first couple of miles for the Ride-On to settle in, these new tires rode like a dream. And no pulling to the side!

Interesting! Ride-On "balances" the tire?? I've seen and used flat fix etc but never for balancing. Thanks.

Ride On is not like flat fix. It does act as a sealant but it also balances the tires and cuts the heat some.
