• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT Mirrors

Phil

Mod Monster
Has anyone had their RT mirrors apart?
Anyone HAPPEN to have pictures of the insides?
I'm adding some 'puddle lights' and I have some that require a 3/4" hole. I'm not to keen on drilling for oil here and hoping this will work without seeing the insides of the mirrors.

Takes about 10 seconds to pop off. No tools required.

I took a look at the mirrors a few months back in an effort to take them apart to install some LED turn signals. The sections are fused together. Given that you have to replace the entire mirror section in the event of a bulb failure, as per the service manual, this confirms my conclusion that you cannot take the mirror housing apart. :(

I suspect that the only way we can find out what is inside the housing is to contact someone on the forum who has broken a mirror and is a position to take a peak inside for us.

Phil, I'm no help on what is on the inside, but my mirrors were off last week and I changed out the top color panel for the new chrome panel available from BRP. Have to tell you, that chrome is worth the $$$$$ so if you tear into them consider the chrome.

Thanks guys. Lamont- I have had them on and off several times. The fiche pic might help figure out what's inside. It APPEARS that it CAN come apart. Or maybe that #61 part is what's fused to the rest of the body. Hummmmmm....

If anyone has a busted one, I'll pay for it to learn. Ok... not that much... but I will pay.

Mirror Seperation

After looking at Lamont's fiche posting I went back and took a closer look at the mirror housing. It does appear that you may be able to take the housing apart, but quite frankly I do not have the nerve to try and pry the cover off of the unit. The parts fiche does not provide me with sufficient detail to ascertain what sort of tab structure is holding the cover together.

If someone does figure out a way of cracking this nut I for one would love to hear how they did it.:helpsmilie:

Getting it apart is a lot harder than getting #61 off, that is just the cover I changed out for the new chrome ones.

I'm really looking at those chrome parts! they do look nice. Any tips for getting that #61 cover off? Or maybe the chome comes with instructions? That's all I'd need to see inside.

UPDATE

Amazon is a great place! And dangerous...

I've ordered one of those mini cameras on the end of a flexible tube with a color monitor. Plumbers use them (and electricians and doctors). The Dr. version is called a Borescope and adds multiple hundred's of $$$$. When it comes in, I'll fish it into the mirror and see what's in there. Looks like I can do image captures so I'll try to post them along the way.

Here's the camera--

I'm sure I'll find some other use for it along the way... fun at parties?!:dontknow:

Now that borescope looks as if it's just about the perfect thing to take pictures in places that noboby ever wanted to see... :roflblack: :shemademe_smilie::pray:

I've got one and it's pretty poor on the resolution side... for really small details in tight places.

BTW...how are you going to use it at parties? :yikes:
