• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

2012RT-S started shifting on its' own this morning. Left a parking lot, turning right and it went into neutral. I shifted into first thinking I may have bumped the down shift and accelerated. Shifted up through gear to fourth at about 50 mph. Suddenly it shifts back down to second,

Mine is in too. For a well-baby check...you know, oil change, basic service....

Did you check the oil level ?

Hope you have warranty, it sounds expensive. I have the SE5 on my 13 and problems like this make me worry about it. I wanted the SM5 but the dealer talked me out of it.

Bummer..!!

have not heard of this problem. Sounds like the shift relay is on the fritz if oil level is fine. Interesting let us know what they find...:dontknow:

Fat finger problem and not being used to the iPad touch screen
My bad, sorry
Completely understandable; I've not been able to get comfortable with Apple's way of doing thing's either... ;)

It's not oil level; that affect the ability of the transmission to shift properly...
This is something in the shifting mechanism that's giving the computers bad information.
I mentioned the gear position sensor, but there's got to be more parts in that subsystem that could be looked at...
Good Luck; Please let us know what they find!

Findings

Bike is ready to be picked up. Talked to them a few minutes ago and the only thing they did was take the left switch gear apart, clean contacts and dry it out. Service manager said he also rode it and couldn't duplicate the symptoms after they finished.

Relieved if that's all it was. Time will tell. Hard to believe it was that since the bike had not been out in the rain for a couple of weeks and I was very careful with the hose while washing it the day before the problem arose.

I will probably take the switch apart and use silicon spray from the dive shop and then seal it off with some clear RTV.

At any rate, now that the good weather has passed, I will pick it up tomorrow and be back in the wind AND rain.

We're waiting to hear what will hopefully, be some good news!

Got it back

Rode the Spyder home, an hour in a downpour, with no problems. Actually, it is shifting more smoothly. Mechanic says there were two drops of water across the contacts on ribbon connector in the left hand switch gear. As soon as he dried it out, everything started working properly.

Will get a few miles in next week before school starts back. On New Years Day, we try to get in a Polar
Bear ride around the Okefenokee Swamp with a stop at the Shak By The Track in St. George for bbq.

All here are in a happy, happy, happy place again.

I'm so glad to hear that it was a pretty simple fix! :2thumbs:
Did your mechanic attempt to do a better job of keeping water out of that connector?

Not sure as I didn't ask that directly. We talked about waterproofing it, so probably didn't happen. I will do it myself.
