RT hitch instructions

My installing dealer didn't give me the install instructions for my recently installed hitch. I'd like to have a copy and was wondering if anyone here might have a odd they could shoot my way. Also wanted to know, in order to remove the hitch when not in use, is it just the two bolts on each side of the hitch and then slide out? If it's that simple I think I'll remove it when it's not being used.

REMOVAL OF HITCH

IMHO....I'd leave it on, but if you do take it off make sure you secure the wire harness, because if you don't it can drop down and then it will be toast and expensive.......Mike :thumbup:

Yes, you'll need a copy because the torque spec for the bolt is in there. And yes, it's just one bolt. The axle is hollow.

I take mine on and off a couple times a year. Not hard once you get the hang of it. Lamont posted some pics of removing his in this thread.

BTW, I hope your dealer gave you your dust covers back for the ends of the axle.

Question for Mike and Doug

Thanks for the replies guys, I have a follow up seeing that you both commented on the axle bolt. On my hitch I see the main axle bolt, but behind that there are two additional bolts on each side of the wheel and it appears that they would easily come off and then the rear half of the hitch could be slid out without having to remove the axle bolt? Is this different from what you have? I can upload a picture later if what I am explaining doesn't make sense.

Brent, that's actually the easy way to remove the Hitch.......the plates were meant to stay on.........But do remember the wire harness !!!....Mike :thumbup:

Yes definitely, that is actually one thing it appears the deal did do a nice job on. The wire harness only come out of the side luggage compartment about 6 inches and is fastened to the underneath. The trailer pigtail is long enough to be run along the hitch frame and then up to the bike side of the harness so no worry about bike side harness dragging when I forget to fasten it up.:gaah:
