• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT error codes again

Last summer I had all kinds of problems with my 2011rt ( 29k miles ). Continuous limp modes every time I rode. Had it in the shop for over 60 days having different things changed to try and eliminate the problems. Thought they had it figure out and rode for about 1000 miles with no problems and today after a short ride the check engine light pops on , at least it didn't throw me in limp mode . Codes for both banks running lean . Bike seems like it's running fine but the check engine light stays on. The one thing that was different after all the repair work is that my mpg dropped from 30 to 25 .Dealer insisted that I was wrong about my mpg , it doesn't get that many miles per gallon. I've checked my mpg at every tank and know for a fact exactly what I was getting. For whatever reason my mpg again went up to 30 for the last 4 tanks and now it says the bike is running lean .

Before I call the dealer again on Monday can anyone give me a clue as to what the problem might be ? Thankfully I still have some miles and time left on my extended warranty but it will be running out shortly so I want to get it repaired while the getting is good ..

Could be the MAP hoses or the rubber mounts the throttle bodies connect to on the engine.
These mounts crack.

Parts replaced

Supposedly the hoses , purge valve , o2 sensor , plug wires and intake flanges were replaced last time in the shop . Throttle bodies were replaced at a prior service .Don't know why the plugs weren't replaced at the same time since they had everything off and changed the wires.

That only leaves the ECM which I doubt.
Since you had 1000 good miles it could be something that was replaced failed.

Bummer...

Could your gas have gone funky on you over the cold spell...if you've been ryding forget I asked...The hoses are common and if they replaced them with the oem hoses it may happen again....Should go for the silicone hoses....

WIRES

If they re-placed the OEM plug wires with OEM plug wires .....BRP's wires are fragile and if not done very carefully they will break internally .......This is why very many here go to BAJARON's plug wires ---- once and done .....:bbq:Mike

Hoses

I tried to get them to install the silicone hoses but they wouldn't do it since it was warranty work .Mechanic said new hoses were not the same material as the old ones :hun: . Since it wasn't my money I couldn't really argue.

I have ran all brands of different gas through it since all the repairs were done last summer with no problems however I did just fill it up at a different station and only have about 30 miles on the tank.I have used gas from this station in the past though and no problems.

ECM has been replaced .

Have several long rides coming up ( 2000 each ) and don't want to get stuck like I did last summer with the limp modes and I was out of state and in the mountains . That plus my warranty is up in July and these repairs aren't cheap .

Well, both cylinders go lean together at the same time. Perhaps a common thread there. You have 29K miles, 5 years old. Why don't we add fuel filter to the list. Also, I wouldn't discount that last load of fuel either. Especially if there was a change in ethanol percentage.

Has the intake manifold been looked over? Perhaps things weren't tightened-up sufficiently, or it has cracked? :dontknow:
If the sensor that is screaming about a "lean" condition is accurate: there's got to be some extra air getting into the system, and it's got to be downstream of the throttle bodies. That doesn't leave too many potential suspects.

Intake manifold

Intakes were changed last go around. As mentioned both banks lean at the same time seems to point to something downstream . Filter would seem suspect as a good possibility unless there are separate filters ? I couldn't be so lucky as to have it be bad gas . Half tempted to siphon out the gas and refill ,can always use the gas in my mower ...LOL If it was just one side I'd probably ride the gas out but both sides being lean I'm afraid to damage the throttle body.

I just called the dealer and he suspects bad gas or fuel filter since it's both banks running lean. I asked if there were two filters and he said there's only one plus the tank screen. His first suggestion was , trade it in on a 2016. Told him that wouldn't work unless he'd pay the difference ...no deal. He said it shouldn't be a problem to tide it and then add gas and see if that cures the problem but does getting it in to look at it if the problem persists , especially if it goes limp.Surprised me that he said it would go to the front of the line because of past problems so we'll see .Will take it for a ride today and see what happens.

One thing I did just think about , the tanker was there pumping gas while I was filling up, maybe stirred up sediment or water ?

Check engine light update on RT

Got the spyder in today and they plugged into BUDS. Got to watch , never got to see anyone use it before today and was pretty nifty .Codes popped up on running lean and to reset purge valve. Couple of pocketa pocketa key taps and and all reset. Now to see how long before it happens again. You either got a trouble free spyder or a PIA and guess which one I got ? First couple of years it was perfect but not since last summer , constant problems and happy for extended warranty.Checked on additional extended warranty and you could hear the happy guy on the other end seeing $$$$$$ , $1600 and have to get spyder diagnosed thoroughly before they'll renew .Still have 3 months to think about it but with all the problems I've had I think I'll end up going for it , has sure paid off so far .No charge for the service today .

Thanks to everyone that responded with ideas.
